I mark GCSE maths exams, working for EDEXCEL. So having marked over 50,000 GCSE questions I am very aware of the common mistakes pupils make. Just by eliminating , their basic errors , will result in most pupils going up one GCSE grade. Learning to answer the TEN banker questions , that turn up year after year , should also boost a pupil by a grade

Tutoring Approach:
Maths is about mastering a number of key skills. So rather than try to teach the whole of the GCSE maths course , I focus on a few key skills starting with the basic Sums , before moving onto ratio , percentage , factorisation and algebra.

From an early age I have been extremely enthusiastic about mathematics and since leaving education, and before I chose to pursue a career in education, I have been fascinated by learning and problem solving. I am currently a teacher in a new school in Hackney, East London. The college is for 14-18 year olds so I specialise in GCSE and A-Level maths teaching. I believe the key to learning is presenting a new topic in a way that the learner can engage with best. I would aim to break a complex problem down into smaller more manageable parts. I find I can accelerate students rapidly in maths (at GCSE and A-level), whilst they greatly enjoy the subject and the sessions. I mainly study past paper questions jointly with my pupils. I try to lead my pupils through the questions in an interesting and challenging way, with my pupils doing much of the work. I make sure that all the key learning points are understood before moving on.

Personal Description:
I have always been someone that likes to help people, and this is the major motivator when it comes to teaching. The 1 to 1 dynamic of tutoring provides a great opportunity for real connection with the student, which then facilitates much better progress through mutual understanding and communication. I`ve found the more casual approach you get from teaching one student in their own home gives them so much more confidence and security than they have at school which makes it so much easier to understand their problems and work through things together.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience teaching Maths and Science in several schools in Derbyshire and south Yorkshire, and have been tutoring privately for the last two years. I attained a BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Nottingham and A*A*AA is Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Further Maths at A-level.

I have a broad range of experience tutoring in different settings and scenarios: online and in-person, KS3, GCSE and A-Level, Foundation and Higher Tiers, relaxed weekly or Bi-weekly sessions, intensive exam prep and even teaching in a home-school environment.

Tutoring Approach:
I opt for a more relaxed approach as I find student comfortability to be the most important factor for learning. Sessions are very interactive with the idea of helping the student understand where they are going wrong and what gaps they have. I am very analytical behind the scenes, building a bespoke portfolio that will inform the direction of future sessions.

I think students find the casual conversational learning to be a breath of fresh air. Many feel cramped and uncomfortable in a classroom so being able to just discuss things freely with no fear of judgement is a huge help. In my experience students always undersell themselves, so I make a point out of showing them how much they already know, which helps them feel more confident from the offset
