Information About Sarah:

Personal Description:

As an educator and enthusiastic learner I always aim to engender a love for learning in those that I work with, regardless of level or subject. I am currently studying for a MA in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) at UCL and am due to graduate in the Autumn of 2027. I am a Dyslexia Specialist Teacher and can diagnose and support students with literacy difficulties; I am an Associate Membership of the British Dyslexia Association and hold a current Assessment Practising Certificate with PATOSS.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked one-to-one with children and young people for over 15 years, supporting them to understand how they learn, build confidence and achieve their potential. I am passionate about responding to each child's individual needs, interests and experiences.
As a qualified teacher (QTS), I am currently completing a Master's degree in Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD/Dyslexia) at UCL, due to finish in 2027. I am also an Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) and hold an SpLD Assessment Practising Certificate through PATOSS. My academic study, combined with extensive practical experience, continues to deepen my
understanding of each child's unique learning profile.
For the past 10 years, I have worked for Hertfordshire Virtual School, primarily with children who are care experienced and often have complex and varied educational histories. This has taught me to look beyond academic attainment and assessment results, recognising the influence of experiences, opportunities, strengths, needs and individual circumstances. Understanding
the journey that has brought each child to where they are now is integral to my work.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to provide an individual approach to learning depending on the learning style and preferences of the individual. I firmly believe that students should be involved in the learning process to improve retention and understanding of information and help them apply everything learnt practically. My aim is not for students to retain information simply for the purpose of passing an exam or completing coursework - it is to help students gain an understanding of a subject so it benefits them through life. Through my experiences as a teacher I have found the words of Confucius to be true of the learning process: "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand."
