Teaching Experience:
Being a 'good' teacher is a subjective opinion that I cannot state about myself. I am experienced in a wide-range of teaching environments from primary/secondary school-aged pupils to adult/prison learning and higher education.

People who have observed me teaching in the past have had positive criticism of my work and mentioned how efficient and encouraging my lessons and teaching methods are. The diverse use of language therefore is important when encouraging others on geography and the key is to find a common interest between subject and receiver for them to understand and to be inspired by what they are learning. For example, when teaching in the prison, Mathematics combined with Geography suddenly becomes more interesting and therefore engaging.

For a researcher with a deep understanding about the Earth's mechanisms, Geography will always reserve a high number of mysteries. Research is the foundation for everything that is taught and this will always be exciting for me to do. But the implementation of this new knowledge may be challenging, that is why you have to keep thinking of new teaching methods to improve the quality of the subject that you are teaching. For this reason, it is essential to assist the younger generation for them to become capable to deal with geography related topics and issues.

- In spring 2019 I attended a 3 month international advanced training course on the Lecoq pedagogy of movement theatre led by master Giovanni Fusetti in Padua, Italy, which incredibly deepened and refined my understanding of the student/teacher relation and enormously widened the ways I can adapt and carry out a class according to the personality and the needs/goals of the students. 430h of training.

- In 2008 I worked as a teaching assistant in a kindergarten in Reykjavk for 8 months. This kindergarten had a special program of integration between kids with special needs (especially hearing impaired ones) and kids with no special requirements, which showed to be very successful. It's all about the foundations. When students start lessons with me, I find even the brightest students almost always have gaps in basic knowledge. Often these are not picked up at school, masked by exam technique or being good at past papers. However, when the real exam comes round, only a mastery of the foundations of each topic will allow students to access the highest-grade questions.

In our first lesson together, we will speak through your goals - is it getting into a grammar school? Passing your GCSE Maths? Getting an A in Chemistry A level? Whatever the goal, I will then talk you through what is needed to get there. And to be upfront, that will mean work outside lessons as well which I will help guide you through. We will then speak through your progress so far - recent test scores, topics you're struggling with, revision habits - and I will use this to build up your bespoke programme for our lessons.

In our lessons I will then focus on mending the foundations of each topic. This is achieved through a combination of explanations, focussed practice and past exam questions. Before we move on to a new topic, my students should be able to explain the concept back to me in detail, ensuring all the needed content is covered.

When explaining a topic, I will ask LOTS of questions to make sure learning is active throughout. For example:

A proton has a positive charge, neutron neutral charge, and electron negative charge. Now tell me what charge a proton has.

This type of questioning is critical and is really the difference between learning in lessons at school compared to one to one or small group tuition. Making sure my students have a comprehensive understanding of each topic is critical to success.

I myself acheived very high grade 9s in these subjects at GCSE so I know what the mark scheme requires first hand. I can teach you the tips and tricks that I used in order to obtain these grades.
