I have graduated at Cambridge University in 2014, studying Mathematics and achieved 2:1. Since then, I have worked for 6yrs in the investment and finance industry, heavily involved in financial analysis, and am a CFA Charterholder.

I am currently a grade-one "outstanding" teacher in my present school, and have been delivering KS3, GCSE and A Level English, Maths and History in the secondary and sixth-form sectors for the past 16 years, in which time my results have far surpassed national pass rates. Moreover, due to these outstanding results and innovative teaching methods, I have served as Assistant Head of Department; helping us to be awarded an internal grade 1 "outstanding" rating for the 6 years in which I held the post. Furthermore, I also have extensive experience as an "Advanced Practitioner"-tasked with turning around failing cohorts in some of the UK's toughest classrooms, as well as my time as an examiner for a variety of GCSE/A Level exam boards.

I have over 20 years' experience in education, coaching, and tutoring, having worked across UK secondary schools (including Maths and PE), international schools, primary education, teacher training, and adult learning. I've also held senior leadership and professional development roles, including mentoring and training teachers and tutors.
My teaching goes beyond procedures and memorisation. I specialise in helping students understand the underlying structure of Maths, develop intuition, and build calm, flexible thinking - particularly those who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck despite trying hard. I have worked as a Class Teacher for nearly 20 years in local Schools. Although my subject specialism is in English, I have an interest in both Maths and English subjects.
I also have significant experience of working with children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups delivering a series of Maths and English GCSE sessions. I have delivered interventions to small groups of children and on a 1:1 basis at primary level. Planning & preparing Maths, Reading, Grammar & Writing activities. I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester researching materials for applications to nuclear fusion. I am deeply passionate about my subject, although I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea! I try my hardest to help my students increase their confidence, enjoyment of the subject and, of course, their grades.

Teaching Experience:
I have been an online tutor since October 2019 and have seen some of my students make 3 grades progress in 3 months. I have worked with a variety of exam boards including international qualifications.

Tutoring Approach:
I try to keep my sessions relatively relaxed as I strongly believe that the best way to learn is when you feel most comfortable. As a fellow student, I can relate to my students and offer them some advice about their studies outside of the classroom. I leave the content of my sessions up to the student to decide, but a typical session would feature a discussion of the content followed by applying the relevant skills through exam practice.

I tutor on line the subjects of Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics and Spanish for the GCSE, A-level, Pre-U, IB and other international exams. I've taught students aged 7 to 18, both online and in person, using a flexible and encouraging approach. Working with such a wide range of learners has helped me adapt to different needs and learning styles, helping students build confidence, understand things more clearly, and see real improvements in their results.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching follows three stages for topics that students are less familiar with:

Guided Example - I begin by working through an example with the student, explaining each step in detail.

Supported Practice - I then provide a similar question broken into smaller parts, prompting the student to ask questions and gradually increasing their independence. This step is repeated until they are confident.

Independent Practice - Finally, I give the student a full question without hints or prompts, to check their understanding and ability to solve it independently.

I can tutor Mathematics up to A-Level (including Further Maths), and I am confident with all the content at this level. Informally, I have tutored peers in the past and found it rewarding to see their progress reflected in improved grades.
