I have found that in essay subjects it is helpful to break down each question that could come up in an exam into the assessment objectives required. I volunteered as part time help at Luddington and Garthorpe primary school in North Lincolnshire. I help when I am not busy, this is experience for me as it is something I am considering as a career path for the future, I help with the children, and I help the class teachers when their TA's are ill or busy elsewhere, I have also answered the phones when the receptionist hasn't been in.

Prior to becoming a qualified teacher my professional experience includes IT, social work, property maintenance, music, photography and education & employment while my studies at undergraduate included nine subjects. I have extensive experience leading groups of a range of ages in a school environment as well as working with individuals to help them achieve their goals and further their skills in their area of interest. I have been tutoring for two years now, having started in my gap year, and I have thoroughly enjoyed helping pupils significantly increase their grades. My most recent GCSE students increased their science grades from 4s to 8s in around a year of tutoring. I use Kolbs learning cycle as a benchmark for my training/teaching. It is focused on learning through; observation, abstraction & reflection, experimentation (do & feel) and recycling (concepts, ideas, etc.). It is very practical and puts the learner at the heart of the learning experience. It also involves the motivation, interest and the curiosity of the learner, who may need stimulation, encouragement and to find leaning is fun and fascinating.

My lessons are both guided by the specific requirements of each course and personalized to meet the needs of each individual student. These two factors are fundamental to ensuring individual students utilize resources, build general, academic and practical competence to fulfil their requirements and exam grades. I believe having a clear 'road map', ensures students can reach their goals.

I have a first class Honours degree in History and a Ph.D and I taught History and Politics in both a sixth form college and a local grammar school for many years. I am patient, friendly and approachable and I also have three children of my own who have been through the GCSE/A level process as well as helping many private tutees for over 15 years and so have a wide experience of the problems that students can experience during their education. I really enjoy teaching and like being able to offer my students one-to-one attention during tuition. I offer mainly online tuition nowadays but am happy to either offer tuition in your home (up to a certain distance from my home) or to have your son or daughter come to my home for tuition.

I am now retired but I taught for 27 years at secondary and further education level with a focus on 16 years and upwards. My specialist subjects were History and Politics which I studied at degree and postgraduate level. I have a great deal of experience of helping students prepare for the requirements of these examinations and of assisting them in securing excellent grades so that they can fulfil their potential.
