Ciao! I'm Esmond. I'm a writer, composer, director and artist, and prizewinning History finalist at the University of Oxford, with experience of a broad range of learning environments and teaching styles, and substantial industry experience in music and the creative arts. I usually teach a student once per week, but if it is necessary, I am willing to top it up by teaching the same student twice a week even. I also offer the first lesson at half price as a an introductory lesson.
My lessons usually last an hour, but I am also happy to top it up to two hours, with a 5-10 minute break, upon request.
Any cancellations or changing of schedules should be noted within 24 hours at least.

I have a First Class law degree from the University of Oxford and have almost 10 years of tutoring experience. At university, I was the Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Oxford University Undergraduate Law Journal. During my time at Oxford, I also published an article in the journal which was awarded the 'Best Private Law' prize, as adjudicated by the former President of the Supreme Court, Lord Neuberger. My name is Edwin. I am originally from the United States and have lived in Scotland since 2016.

I enjoy working with children and helping them reach their potential. As a university student, I first discovered my interest in teaching by volunteering in my mother's preschool. And since then, I have worked with children in varying capacities. Outside of teaching, I was a volunteer youth counsellor for five years and a volunteer youth basketball coach for four years.

Teaching Experience:
I am a newly qualified Primary Teacher in Scotland, currently working as a supply teacher. I have experience teaching at all levels of primary education in a variety of school settings.

As a doctoral candidate, I worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) at the University of Glasgow. In this capacity, I led seminars and helped students plan their essays, which I later marked.

I also used to work as a substitute teacher and after school coordinator in the United States, working primarily with early level students.

I am an experienced tutor, based in North-East Lincolnshire. I have many years of teaching under my belt, as well as experience of marking for exam boards. I am a dad and enjoy studying History and watching rugby.

Teaching Experience:
I have over 14 years of experience teaching in secondary schools in England. I have taught primarily History but also RS, Humanities, Geography, Citizenship and English. I have taught students of many different levels of attainment and from many different backgrounds.

I have taught History to A Level with experience of teaching units on Nazi Germany, the history of medicine, Elizabethan England, the American West, the Cold War, the Inter-War years, Civil Rights in America. As a historian, I specialise in medieval and early modern history.

Teaching Experience:
Whilst I haven't held an official teaching role, I've spent the last couple of years helping to mentor those around me when they needed it. I find it incredibly rewarding to break down harder concepts that people often find 'scary' into more manageable steps. For example, I previously tutored a friend in GCSE Maths who was consistently stuck on a grade 4-5. By focusing on consistently appearing topics that could also appear in larger mark questions, like SURDs and completing the square, I helped her build the confidence to tackle the higher-tier papers. I'm proud to say she went on to achieve a Grade 7 in her final exams. Additionally, I regularly help my younger sister with her primary school work, helping me to develop the patience and adaptability skills needed to explain the same concept in multiple different ways and examples until it clicks and sticks to the student being taught.

Tutoring Approach:
Growing up, I've always been a visual learner; I understand that textbooks aren't always enough. I've used this to my advantage to turn it into my greatest teaching strength: I use my iPad to make every session interactive.I do this by breaking down complex topics with live diagrams, graphs, and real-life examples to break down exactly how a concept works. I also use the 'I do, we do, you do' approach to help build a genuine understanding of the topic. First, I model exactly how to tackle a high-mark exam question. Next, we collaborate on a second question and work through the steps required together. Finally, I let the student take the lead on their own, allowing them to apply their new skills with their own knowledge.
