Teaching Experience:
My teaching experience has been gained in a wide range of educational establishments, in the UK and overseas. I taught in an international boarding school for many years and taught students for whom English was their second language. I taught business related subjects in the Middle East in the training department of a multi-national oil company. Prior to this I worked in schools and colleges in Wales and England.

More recently, I have been tutoring economics and business on-line, using a variety of platforms including Zoom and MS Teams

Tutoring Approach:
At our first meeting, I will assess your strengths and weaknesses so that I can draw up an individual learning plan for you. The first 15 minutes are free.

I find that most students are capable of learning the content of the GCSE or A level syllabus, can remember the main concepts, but struggle to write a coherent A grade essay. If this is your weakness, then I will focus on developing your essay writing skills and I have lots of resources which I use to do this.
I understand that some of the economics and business concepts can be quite complex and some of the diagrams challenging, so I will be very patient with you and will make sure you fully understand every topic in the syllabus. I will stretch and challenge you to make sure that you stay at the top of your game and I will use materials appropriate to your ability.

My main objective is to help students gain confidence and instil in them a 'can do' attitude. This is something that I believe I am good at. I get great job satisfaction when I see my students develop self-confidence and reach their full potential. My approach is to identify the students need whether that's understanding the content fully or being able to apply their knowledge to exam questions. Or indeed whether the student needs to practise structuring their writing to more clearly align with the mark schemes from the examiner. In addition some students need support organising themselves and planning their revision. I believe it should complement and enhance their school work in a positive way. Ideally students should use the sessions to enable them to become more independent in their learning rather than tutoring for perpetuity.

As someone who has recently experienced what it is like doing the new style of GCSE`s and A-Levels, I understand and recognise what works best in order for students to excel beyond what they think might be their limits.
