Personal Description:
I'm currently studying for a BSc in Economics at Durham University, where I'll be entering my second year after achieving a first-class average in my first year. Before university, I achieved A*AA at A-level in Economics, Mathematics and Chemistry, alongside an A* in an EPQ exploring the economic impact of AI on the UK economy.
I've always been fascinated by how the world works, which is what drew me to Economics. I particularly enjoy macroeconomics, microeconomics and financial markets, and I love following economic news and seeing how the theories we learn apply to real-world events.
Outside of my degree, I play football for my college team, and I'm also interested in personal finance and investing.
I wanted to become a tutor because Economics is a subject I genuinely enjoy, and I'd love to help students build both their confidence and understanding. It's a fantastic subject that opens the door to a wide range of careers while developing valuable analytical and quantitative skills. My aim is to make lessons engaging, approachable and enjoyable, helping students achieve the grades they're aiming for while developing a genuine interest in the subject.
Teaching Experience:
Over the past year, I've been running my own A-level Economics tutoring business, working with students across the Edexcel specification. Lessons are delivered through Microsoft Teams using an interactive whiteboard, allowing us to share screens, work through diagrams and calculations together, and build detailed notes that students can keep and revisit after every session.
Every lesson is tailored to the student's individual needs, whether that's mastering a difficult topic, improving essay structure or preparing for upcoming exams. Alongside strengthening subject knowledge, we place a strong emphasis on exam technique by working through past paper questions, examiner expectations and the use of high-quality evaluation.
Students also benefit from my own handwritten revision notes, which helped me achieve an A* in A-level Economics and over 90% across all three exam papers. For those aiming for the highest grades, I have an extensive bank of real-world case studies covering every topic on the specification, helping students develop the application and evaluation skills needed to make the jump from an A to an A*. I'm also happy to mark additional questions between lessons and provide detailed feedback, ensuring students continue to improve outside of our sessions.
Tutoring Approach:
My tutoring is centred around building genuine understanding before focusing on exam technique. Every student is different, so I'll tailor each lesson to the topics they find most challenging, breaking down key concepts and diagrams into simple, manageable steps using real-world examples to bring Economics to life.
Alongside developing subject knowledge, we'll spend plenty of time applying it through exam questions and past papers. In my experience, strong exam technique is what separates the very best students, so we'll work together to refine essay structure, evaluation and the effective use of real-world case studies to maximise marks.
I'll also provide my own high-quality handwritten notes and revision resources, as well as recordings or summaries of lessons where helpful, allowing students to revisit difficult topics at their own pace. Outside of lessons, I'm always happy to mark additional practice questions and provide detailed feedback, helping students continuously improve and build confidence ahead of their exams.
