I trained as an actor at Arts Educational schools and have forty years experience working as an actor, director, writer and trainer. For ten years I worked as an audio director, directing many of the UK's leading actors in recordings of 150 audio books, poetry collections and drama. As a writer I have seen my plays produced in repertory theatre and by small touring companies and have also written for TV. I have been coaching people in presentation skills, acting and elocution since 2003. I teach young adults aged 18 and over and adults of any age.

Teaching Experience:
I began my career as an actor-teacher, working for small theatre companies touring schools, often leading drama workshops on educational themes. I was also Assistant Lecturer in Contemporary Theatre at the London branch of Boston University, teaching American young adults. I have been teaching private students since 2003, including business people wishing to improve their communication and presentation skills, poets who wish to perform their work live, and corporate trainers seeking voice coaching.

Tutoring Approach:
I teach at my home (or online), providing a safe, relaxed and supportive environment in which students can learn practical skills, build their confidence and discover their true ability. Lessons are tailored to meet the specific learning needs of the student, whether they are learning for fun or professional development. I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. I am currently in my second year of a BA Hons in Film Studies at Edge Hill University, living away from home during the week but always available on weekends. I believe strongly in finding the best approach for each individual student. I don't believe in 'one size fits all' tuition and never have; we are all so gloriously unique and different! This might be quickly re-writing an introduction, re-ordering a thesis or perhaps simply writing a single line of analysis and quotation. In Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation (previously Close Reading), my experience as an SQA marker provides tutees with an invaluable insight into exam strategies needed for success. Certainly, this experience leads me to use a specific question type / specific formula answer approach. Tutees are encouraged to identify a particular question type, e.g. 'the context question', and then use the appropriate formula to gain maximum marks. Thereafter, the tutee is asked to practise this particular type of question whilst also undertaking whole close reading passages containing said question type.

In the critical examination of literature, particular attention is given to structure and developing a mature, yet fresh, personal response. I tend to adopt a modelling approach. Effectively, the tutee and I draft a first core essay on a given text, say, for example, 'Romeo and Juliet' Using this exemplar, the tutee is then assigned further essay questions, drawing upon this core essay as a guideline. Support is given throughout the writing process and constructive feedback is offered in the form of stage-appropriate targets to ensure progress.

My background is defined by a passionate love of drama, theatre and performing. From a young age I've participated in school plays and productions, from fashion shows to singing contests to performing in the Shakespearian School Festival.

LOVELAMDA delivers one-to-one lessons in Acting, Public Speaking, Musical Theatre and Verse and Prose, from Grades 1-8 for students 8-18. For children 6-8 years LOVELAMDA offers lessons working towards introductory exams, which are a great foundation and prepare students with the essential skills required to partake in the higher-level grades.

At LOVELAMDA students get my un-divided attention. Each lesson is 45 minutes of 1-1 tutoring (this is all dependant on the grade level and may vary).
