I am currently working as a teaching assistant for a special needs secondary school in Bromley Borough, having worked in the field of Information Technology for over 11 years. Working for a special needs school in the UK has given me an insight into education in the public sector. The reason I would like to teach Maths and ICT is that they are my favourite subjects. I believe in one-to-one tuition because it gives the student an opportunity to ask questions about the subject matter, without being seen as stupid. I will provide materials, course guides, and encourage young students to be creative in their methods of tackling problems. I have lots of experience with working with students from the E/U borderline-category all the way up to A/A* candidates.

From the Ages of 14 onwards (Year 9+) I teach all subjects from scratch, with a view to proving why concepts exist and introduce topics from first principles. This I believe will improve retention, help pupils understand concepts better, and also allow them to remember test questions better - It really does work!

Where parents request extra work, I can provide monthly progress sheets, homework tasks, and an extensive list of past papers. Pupils are also encouraged to not just tackle past papers, but to try and understand how papers are conceived, helping them prepare for the unexpected, should it arise in their relevant exams.

I have been tutoring students across London in all aspects of Computing since 2015. Having a PhD and a 1st Class Degree in Computer Science from Sheffield University, I have a great deal of experience in everything from general programming to academic research. I worked for a decade as an academic at both Sheffield and Surrey Universities. I have helped many students through their studies at GCSE and A-level, teaching AQA, OCR and CIE syllabuses. I am also happy to teach adult learners who are looking to expand their skillset.

For A-level and GCSE students it is worth beginning tuition as soon as possible, not just in the weeks running up to exams (although this can still help). This is particularly important for Computer Science because students should be learning a programming language in parallel with their studies. Some exam boards require a programming project as coursework, and it is important that this is completed as soon as possible to leave room for exam preparation.

I am happy to help degree students with theory and learning programming, but enquiries asking for help with an assignment for hand in next week are unlikely to be followed up.

I started working as a tutor in London and Surrey in 2013/2014, mainly for students who had been excluded from school. In 2015 I relocated and began tutoring private clients in East Anglia. In 2016 I started offering online tuition, first using Skype, and now with Zoom. Tutoring Approach:
For younger students, I assess them on their first appointment to see where their strengths and weaknesses are.
