After completing my D.Phil from the University of Oxford, I worked for 7 years as a Senior Biologist for a small drug discovery company where I was responsible for screening new drug targets in tissue models for human disease. Over the years I've had so many comments from students/colleagues about my ability to break subjects down to ease understanding, and coupled with my passion for science and sharing that with others I decided to change career and become a full-time science tutor. I've never looked back!

I am also a freelance examiner for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) - examining is invaluable to my role as a science tutor and to the development of my students' abilities in preparation for their examinations. And before that I worked for tech companies including Microsoft and Uber, taking some time to organise an expedition to Antarctica on behalf of HRH Prince Wales, the Commonwealth and the BBC. I've learned how to build and lead world-class teams and really enjoy bringing a love of mentoring into tutoring key subjects.

Beyond my work, I enjoy climbing and writing music, and I'm driven by a desire to help others succeed, both in the classroom and beyond.

I am a fully qualified, DBS-certified teacher, private tutor and Dyslexia Specialist with over 30 years' experience in education, teaching and as an Advisory Practitioner for the Society of Education and Training (SET).

Alongside tutoring, I have previously worked as a Dyslexia Coordinator and teacher in various schools and colleges, including Harrow College, Uxbridge College, Barnet College, Stanmore College, Weald College, West Herts College, and as a Teacher/Tutor Inspector for Harrow Borough Council. My most recent lesson observations were graded Outstanding (Grade 1) by Ofsted, and I can provide excellent references from colleges, parents and former students.

Teaching Experience:
I have extensive experience supporting students of all ages, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, Asperger's, and English as an additional language. I specialise in English Language & Literacy and Maths, tailoring each lesson to the individual needs of my students.

Tutoring Approach:
My teaching approach is multi-sensory (visual, auditory and kinaesthetic). I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable, not a chore. In the first lesson, I assess individual needs, form a learning plan, give feedback to parents, then aim to fill in any learning gaps before moving on. Each session builds on previous learning. I always say that if a student does not understand how I have explained something, this is my responsibility to rectify, not the student. Repeating instructions is not the key - explaining in different ways is what works.
