I am a qualified teacher with over twelve years' classroom experience and a four-year integrated Master's degree in Chemistry (MSci) from Imperial College London, where I graduated with First Class Honours in 2013.

I have taught Chemistry at a leading independent boys' school, and before that spent two and a half years at an independent girls' school. I hold both Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), and taught across a range of state schools while training. Alongside my main degree I also studied Physics and Mathematics, so I am comfortable supporting students where the three subjects overlap.

I am also the author of two published GCSE Chemistry revision guides and I have developed two companion revision apps on the App Store covering the same specifications. Both came directly out of the classroom - the points students reliably get stuck on, and the exam technique that moves grades - and my students work from the same material and the same approach in their lessons.

My aim is to help students reach their ambitions and their true potential. I encourage them to develop intellectual curiosity beyond the confines of the syllabus, and to strive for excellence in whichever field they choose to pursue. I also believe in a balanced approach, in which academic study, physical health and proper time to consolidate learning can comfortably co-exist.

Tutoring Approach:
How I teach:

I introduce new material by building on what a student already knows, so each concept connects to something familiar rather than arriving out of nowhere. Chemistry becomes very difficult when it is learned as disconnected rules, and much more manageable when students see how the ideas fit together.

When a student is stuck on an exam question, I don't hand them the answer. I give a hint - enough to get their thinking moving, and no more - and let them arrive at it themselves. It takes a little longer, but it is the difference between a student who can answer that question and one who can answer the questions they haven't seen yet.

How lessons run:

- One hour on Zoom, with live annotation so we work through problems together on screen
- Built around your child's exact specification - wording, mark schemes and examiner expectations, not generic Chemistry
- A shared Google Drive folder for every student, holding their resources, homework and a dated record of everything covered in each lesson, so students can revisit any topic and parents can see exactly what has been taught
- OneNote available if a student prefers it
- Small group lessons also available

I am a Marine Biologist (PhD) and lecturer in Education. I am currently based in North Berwick, Scotland and have a wide-range of interests such as paddle-boarding, kayaking, hiking, cooking and spending time with my family and friends. All that I can say is that Ellie is fantastic. When she was teaching myself and my brother A Level Chemistry, she always gave short, concise explanations of concepts in a way that we easily understood. Also, she gave us past paper questions after each topic so that we had plenty of practice at exam technique. She marked these and sent us feedback on what to improve on. This meant that when it came around to do our exams, we were fully prepared for them and confident that we could do well. Teaching Experience:
I am an experienced and passionate Maths and Science Tutor with extensive teaching experience across all three sciences - Biology, Chemistry, and Physics - including Combined Science at both GCSE and A-Level. Over the years, I have successfully taught students from a wide range of academic backgrounds and abilities, helping them build confidence, strengthen their scientific understanding, and achieve excellent examination results.

I am fully familiar with all major UK exam boards, including AQA, Edexcel, and OCR, which allows me to tailor lessons specifically to the requirements, assessment styles, and mark schemes of each specification. My teaching approach combines strong subject knowledge with exam-focused techniques, ensuring students not only understand the content but also know how to apply their knowledge effectively in examinations.

I have a strong track record of student achievement, with many students improving by at least two grades after working with me. One of my most rewarding success stories involved students who were initially predicted grades 3-3 in Combined Science and went on to achieve grades 7-6 in their final GCSE examinations.
Over the years, my A level students have progressed into fields such as Medicine, Dentistry, Mechanical Engineering, and Psychology.

I take pride in identifying individual learning needs, breaking down complex scientific concepts into simple and engaging explanations, and creating a supportive learning environment that motivates students to reach their full potential.

In addition to improving academic performance, I focus on developing students' confidence, independent learning skills, and exam technique. My lessons are structured, interactive, and adapted to each student's pace and goals, whether they are aiming to pass, secure top grades, or prepare for progression into A-Level studies, university, or healthcare-related careers.

Tutoring Approach:
I take an interactive and structured approach to tutoring, starting with what the student already knows and building from there. My lessons are discussion-based rather than passive, encouraging active participation.

To ensure engagement, I incorporate practice questions to help apply concepts effectively. I also use visual aids and real-world examples to keep lessons dynamic and relatable.

My lessons are bespoke to each student and tailored to what they are covering at school, which helps boost engagement in the classroom and build confidence, especially when teachers recognise their progress through improved assessment grades.
