During the last three decades I have worked with numerous students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. The overwhelming majority of students can do well in mathematics provided they have the confidence, the techniques and willingness to work hard. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.

I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.

It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students and am a firm believer in using physical and computer based study tools and aides to complement the standard oral and written tools used to teach mathematics. I also believe in linking the mathematics that we study to the real world to increase students' engagement with the topic and their understanding of its relevance. I am very patient and empathetic to my student's needs and once they develop in confidence I encourage all my students to challenge themselves regularly. Depending on the amount of time available, I usually help students cement their mastery of the foundations of arithmetic and algebra before moving on to establish fluency in statistics, geometry and problem solving.

I have been teaching science at GCSE, iGCSE, A level and university level for 5 years and have worked with a variety of pupils with various abilities, learning styles, strengths and weaknesses.

My current and recent tutees include students attending prestigious private schools (Alleyn's, Bedales, Bromley High, City of London Freemens, Dulwich College, Eltham College, Hurstpierpoint College, JAGS, Latymer`s, St. Paul`s Girls, Sherborne Boys, Sherborne Girls, Trinity and Whitgift) and grammar schools (St. Olaves, Wallington and Wilson).

Tutoring Approach:
I provide a personalised tuition programme either ONLINE or in the tutee`s home. My tutoring style is very flexible and varies based upon the student`s needs. These needs are usually pinpointed within the first meeting and I tailor all sessions to the individual needs and requirements. I apply a variety of different teaching techniques and styles that I have found to be effective in order to make studying enjoyable, interesting as well as beneficial, helping students to reach their full potential.

I make structured lesson plans tailored to student`s needs and will set regular tasks to ensure full understanding of topics under discussion.

I have an excellent knowledge and experience of the current curriculum of all major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel and OCR) and I have relevant educational and exam materials.

My method of teaching greatly helps a student understand their subject and gives them the confidence needed to excel and succeed in their studies. I have over 30 years' experience in education as a teacher, former headteacher, university tutor and private tutor. I believe every child can succeed when learning is tailored to their individual needs and delivered in a supportive, encouraging environment. My lessons are engaging, well-structured and designed to build both confidence and understanding. Whether preparing for SATs, GCSEs, A Levels or simply boosting confidence, my aim is to help every student enjoy learning and achieve their full potential.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught for over 30 years across primary, secondary and higher education. My experience includes working as a classroom teacher, headteacher, university associate tutor and private tutor. I currently teach and mentor trainee teachers at university while supporting students from primary through to A Level. I have extensive experience preparing pupils for SATs, GCSEs and A Levels, and adapting my teaching to meet a wide range of learning needs, including those of students with SEND.

I teach chemistry and physics at a school in Suffolk. .
I am an engaged and understanding teacher. I build strong relationships with the students that I teach and I am excellent at allowing students to believe in their ability. I also possess a positive can-do approach and provide a relaxed atmosphere that allows students to maximise their potential.

Teaching Experience:
I have twenty-eight years teaching experience with a BSC Hons degree in Biological and Medicinal Chemistry and a Master's degree in Education leadership. I have been Head of Science for several years and have a vast amount of experience preparing students for examinations at GCSE and A level. I have taught Chemistry and Biology up to A-Level. I also teach GCSE combined and separate sciences including GCSE Physics. I am based in the Colchester area and willing to travel to students as required. As well as face to face teaching, I also have considerable experience in online teaching, which included teaching 15 students collectively online throughout the lockdown period and through individual online private tuition.

Tutoring Approach:
I take a clear, structured and confidence building approach to tutoring, designed to help learners understand how the concepts in Science and Chemistry work, not just memorise them. My sessions focus on breaking complex concepts into simple, logical steps, using real world examples and explanations so students can understand the overall picture as well as the specific finer details. I specialise in helping students who feel they "missed something" the first time around and allow them to believe in their own ability whether that is at GCSE, A level, or returning to science after a long break.
For adult learners, I offer a supportive and non-judgemental environment that moves at the right pace while still being ambitious for the individual. My goal is always the same: to help students feel capable, prepared, and genuinely confident in their scientific thinking. I want every learner to leave each session with a sense of progress and a clear idea of what to do next.
