I'm a qualified science teacher and Head of Science based in London, who currently teaches in a secondary school to students aged 11-18. I have worked within education for the past 10 years and really love working with young people to inspire them to achieve the best they can. I have a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology and my tutoring approach is a student-centred one. My experience covers tutoring, mentoring and coaching and I use a combination of the three in my work.

I am yet to come across a student who doesn't possess the potential to improve. More often than not, it is the large class sizes at school, or a teacher whose approach isn't the right fit, which explains why a student doesn't understand a particular subject, or particular topics within that subject.

Through the 1-to-1 work I do with students, not only have I witnessed some remarkable grade improvements but also some amazing transformations in confidence. I strongly feel that the work I do is more than merely improving grades for exams.

I also have eighteen years of experience working in clinical biochemistry laboratories within the NHS. This encompassed various roles and duties, including producing analytical results to help diagnose and manage patients, troubleshooting and problem-solving, discussion of patients with clinical staff, management and supervision of laboratory staff and research and development work. Good tutoring doesn't require a specific approach, it depends on the learning pattern of the student, I've always studied in groups I understand some students may pick up certain topics through different explanations and examples to another student. My approach to tutoring would be whatever suits the students better, whether it's : explanations, examples, similar questions to the question they're struggling with. I aim to teach the student through various methods, in my opinion learning is important but consolidation through repetition is more important

As someone who has recently experienced what it is like doing the new style of GCSE`s and A-Levels, I understand and recognise what works best in order for students to excel beyond what they think might be their limits. Having achieved 9 A*`s at GCSE(6 "9`s" for GCSE and 3 "A*`s for IGCSE) and A*A*A*A at A-Level recently, I understand what approach works best in order for a student to excel and what the exam boards are looking for so that the pupil can achieve the best grades. I am able to teach a wide variety of exam boards.

My students feel that it is very easy to connect with how I teach and are not afraid to ask questions or approach my teaching in a fun and informal manner. With over 3 years of extensive tutoring experience - having clocked in hundreds upon hundreds of hours - I have relished helping pupils sky-rocket their grades. I have a B.Sc. in Developmental Biology and Biochemistry from Aberdeen University and a PhD.D. in medical science from Glasgow University.

I have always been someone that likes to help people, and this is the major motivator when it comes to teaching. The 1 to 1 dynamic of tutoring provides a great opportunity for real connection with the student, which then facilitates much better progress through mutual understanding and communication. I`ve found the more casual approach you get from teaching one student in their own home gives them so much more confidence and security than they have at school which makes it so much easier to understand their problems and work through things together.

Many feel cramped and uncomfortable in a classroom so being able to just discuss things freely with no fear of judgement is a huge help.
