I graduated with an MFA in Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Art in London and have a degree in painting and, diploma in art and design.

I specialise in portraiture and figurative art and drawing. I've also worked with iPad painting. My preferred medium is oil and acrylic, charcoals and pencil. Much of my work is done through direct observation and I stress to students, the importance of this. Observational work strengthens the eyes, memory and confidence in what we are looking at, enabling a better observational record. Therefore, plenty of practice, ultimately reaps rewards.

I have taught in the UK for over 10 years and have extensive experience in teaching Art at A-level and at GCSE. I see myself as a 2D specialist as I can do a number of different techniques and have an experimental approach to teaching Art. Every project is unique and I am constantly learning. I will be able to do printmaking with students, painting, textiles, some Adobe photoshop work and basic construction work. But most importantly I do understand the exam boards at GCSE and at A-level and enjoy developing a project with the student to meet the assessment objectives of the exam board and in so doing taking the students through a journey of discovery where they can become empowered and passionate about their work. Having worked for over 20 years as an Art teacher leading students in the A-level and GCSE course I have the ability to help a student to develop their skills when taking Art and Design as an examination subject. I have worked with a number of exam boards and even consulted with OFQUAL where I helped look at the standards in the exam board across the Country. I am a professional in my field and will be able to support students in developing their Art and Design skills and will aim to make it a personal journey where students choose their own technique and learn to develop this in line with the requirements of the Examination Board.

Tutoring Approach:
I would work with the student to find out exactly what their special skill is in Art. Students will need to find a topic that inspires them and do some visual research on this and I would then help the students by teaching them a range of different techniques, learning how to draw in a number of media from pencil, chalk, oil pastel, pen and ink, biro and graphite and then teach them how to paint in gouache, acrylic, watercolour and use a mixed media approach. Textiles is also a medium I would offer students and basic construction techniques. Adobe photoshop skills is also important in developing photographic images as part of the development. Developing different skills until the student finds out what they particularly enjoy working with and helping the student to explore different media to extend their ideas and lead the students up to developing a final piece. The students would then have a whole project from beginning to end which will help with portfolio development.

I studied Fine Art at Canterbury College of Art in the 1980's. As an artist I work figuratively. Through drawing in either pencil, charcoal, ink or pen I take my work forward into 3D materials and use photography as a major influence to inform my structures. I love to work with natural forms and use printing processes including lino cut, drypoint and stencil.
I have lived and worked in Lewes for the past 25 years. We have a family home on the outskirts of the town where I also teach Privately - both individually and group classes.

I primarily teach young people preparing for art portfolio presentations and university entrance exams. I make a policy to teach from life using the traditional teaching methods and techniques of the great masters from the Italian Renaissance as this is how I was educated. I teach my students to understand and use perspective, relationships, contrasts and composition. I teach any level of art student following an initial portfolio review. This portfolio review helps me see previous drawings students have done which helps me understand how to construct our lessons in order to achieve success.

A teacher with a degree in Photographic arts. Passionate and knowledgeable about digital and analogue photography, with the ability to teach post-production editing in Photoshop. I also do photography for my own enjoyment, specifically looking at landscape and architectural photography. I have freelanced previously as a wedding photographer but that life was just not for me as I much prefer teaching the subject as a career! I have worked with AQA and Edexcel and I am up to date on my standardisation procedures for Edexcel examing board, most recently having been on a training course in November 2023. I would like to know the projects being carried out, what examining board is being used (not for university) and what the student would like to achieve by the end of their course and what methods of approach they are being taught at school, so that I can help support with that. I like to open a project with multiple solutions or approaches and discuss which is the option that stands out most. Then develop and evolve this choice into a more substantial solution. I find that using visual aids, such as power points really help, as well as using video examples where necessary. My classes will focus on drawing and painting, and the use of sketchbooks that will provide you with the fundamentals of a portfolio for application to college or art school. I graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2000 and have taught there as well as at other colleges, schools and museums. The sketchbook should be a journal of your ideas and thoughts. It's not something for finished works. It's your space to experiment, to discover, but also to fail and make mistakes.

From this I gained a valuable insight into the fashion and textiles industry. My love for creating designs has continued throughout the years.

Classically educated to Masters level and able to utilise different mediums and techniques to produce paintings, sculptures or models.
I specialise in oil on canvas and have a style described as a mixture of Monet and Constable.
