I am a 22 year old who is currently working at RWS translations group in Chalfont St Peter. I have recently graduated from Durham University with a 2.1 BA in Modern Languages (French and Italian). I also studied Spanish up to 2nd year. I enjoy speaking different languages and try to pass on my enthusiasm for languages to others.

Teaching Experience:
My third year at University was spent abroad. I chose to teach in France for 7 months in two primary schools which I very much enjoyed. I loved to chat to the children and try to get them to see the importance of learning English. I also au-paired for three months in Italy during my Year Abroad, which involved private lessons with a 7 year old. I have also previously tutored French, which included exam preparation, focusing on problematic areas and improving confidence. I understand how difficult languages can be, I believe I can sympathise with the student. The lesson must be fun and the student needs to understand the importance of learning a language, in order to be enthusiastic about it.

I believe languages are crucial in education. Throughout university I took part in Routes into Languages, a consortium of universities working together with schools and colleges, to enthuse and encourage people to study languages. This role involved planning taster classes for small groups, introducing a new language into their education and broadening their knowledge of the world and different cultures. I particularly enjoyed this role as I was enable to communicate the importance of languages and perhaps inspire some of the children to carry languages on past year 9.

I achieved my Trinity CertTESOL in January 2015. The certification process included teaching both group and individual lessons for a range of abilities from pre-intermediate to advanced. I was thoroughly stimulated by this course and enjoyed it immensely. I am a committed, caring and experienced teacher with a proven track record of bringing out the best in students and helping them to attain excellent results across all ability levels. I have been particularly successful at stretching those students aiming to achieve the highest grades. I have stepped back from teaching for a few years to care for my two young children full-time but I miss teaching a lot and helping students to achieve their potential. I come to teaching from a commercial rather than academic background. I worked in music publishing and for an Indian furniture and design business for many years before qualifying as a mature student from the Institute of Education, UCL in 2013 with a PGCE (maths) at level seven since when I have been teaching GCSE maths to adults at various colleges around London including City of Islington College, South Thames College, Adult Learning Lewisham and Westminster Adult Education Services where I was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
As well as my PGCE I have A level mathematics and began a music degree at Goldsmiths thirty years ago but did not complete it. As part of my CPD I completed the GCSE Maths Enhancement Program at the IOE and Pearson's Preparing to Teach the new GCSE (9-1) Syllabus.

Ongoing - private tuition. I divide my time equally between teaching adults at the colleges mentioned above and private tuition for several agencies and sometimes by personal recommendation. I usually have between eight to ten private students from 11+ to GCSE with occasional mature students returning to education. Hi, my name is Imi, and I am in my 5th year of Dentistry at the University of Bristol. I am looking to tutor in Chemistry and Biology up to A-level and below, having taken Chemistry, Biology and Economics at A-level myself and achieved 3 A*'s. In addition to this, I also completed my Extended Project Qualification based on dentistry, drawing on my scientific background, in which I achieved an A*. At GCSE level, I achieved all 9's and took all 3 sciences, Maths, English, German, Geography, Religious Studies and Latin.

Teaching Experience:
At secondary school, I was a Peer Mentor for 2 GCSE students in Biology and Chemistry. We met weekly in the build up to their exams and went over topics they struggled with and I brought some of my own materials along to test their knowledge after we had discussed their mistakes. I learnt a great deal about different teaching styles from both students and how to be adaptable when the topic of discussion changed quickly. Additionally, for 2 years every week, I volunteered to teach disabled children how to swim at my local pool. This was a wonderful experience and developed my communication skills immensely as I had to cater to a wide range of disabilities. Therefore, I believe I am very patient and flexible with my approach to teaching.

I feel passionately about making all of my tutoring sessions interactive, enjoyable and targeted to the individual student. I endeavour to make all of my tutees feel relaxed with me from the start, so that there's a comfortable environment, where they know that all their questions are valid and can be asked without judgement. I believe it is important to frequently recap content in order to identify areas of weakness in my tutee's knowledge and I plan to do this with recap quizzes/discussions at the beginning of each session. Personally, I also greatly benefitted from making up mnemonics and sketching diagrams when covering challenging content and so I would aim to do this with my tutee too. However, I would see what mix of methods work best for each student.
