Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified teacher and have worked as a private tutor since having my first child in 2009. I tutor Maths up to GCSE, offering exam preparation and last minute Easter holiday revision sessions. I also tutor English up to year 9 and specialise in 11+ preparation.

Teaching Experience:
I have six years of full-time teaching experience, working within independent and state schools. In addition, I have tutored a range of children aged between 5 and 16 years of age, privately, and within schools for the National Tutoring Covid Catch-Up Programme. As a result, I have a wide knowledge of the National Curriculum. In total, I have over 15 years of tutoring experience.

Tutoring Approach:
I offer face-to-face tuition which takes place at your home. I am a patient and caring person who can explain things clearly. In addition, I will take the time to ensure that your child understands a concept but I will also set high expectations to push them to achieve their full potential. I believe in positivity and praise to build confidence and enthusiasm, which ultimately will aid success.

I also tutor online using Zoom with shared PowerPoints and websites to create interactive lessons. I have a wide variety of books from which I provide relevant questions for students to practise. Homework can be set upon request, and I can also assist with homework set from school.

Personal Description:
I studied English Literature at University. I can cater for all needs and abilities, as I can in the classroom.

I have always wanted to be a teacher and this has been demonstrated through my choice of work experience in year ten. I grew up with a passion for education and learning. I was educated at a state school and being of the new young generation I can relate to all of the trials and tribulations endured by youngsters having either experienced them myself or knowing someone who has. I can use my personal experiences to help and guide the students as well as empathise.

Teaching Experience:
I completed my PGCE in 2012-2013. I have taught in two schools and am now the Head of English in a school in RCT. I also mark for WJEC, both English Literature and Language papers.

Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style would be firm but fair.
I would help them with certain aspects of their course which they were struggling with and depending on their age I would range with help in essay writing, essay style and approaches to writing essays. I would help guide them through the reading process and close analytical reading, as well as guiding them through the essay writing process.
I would be able to expand their knowledge of the books on the course and help them complete coursework.
I am clearly a strong English student as I have always achieved high grades at school and have continued to study to degree level.
I would be able to produce results to the highest of their capability and extend their knowledge of English.
Pupils would need to come to my house in Brynmenyn, but at the moment all sessions would be done through Zoom due to the pandemic.

Hi - my name is Jonathan. I am a former primary school assistant headteacher, currently between jobs as I head towards a new role in initial teacher training. I therefore have plenty of availability in the coming autumn term to offer expert maths tuition for children heading towards 7+ or 11+ exams OR GCSE November resits.

Between 2021 and 2024, I taught at a leading West London day school as a Year 4-6 maths specialist teacher. I therefore have a strong understanding of the independent school landscape across London and am confident in preparing children for the mathematical demands of these exams.

I also have strong experience supporting students working at the Grade 3/4 borderline. My calm, patient approach and expertise in how to teach the fundamental concepts around KS2/early KS3 level has helped several students achieve the Grade 4/C they needed.

Although exam preparation is key, I take care to keep tutoring patient and positive, emphasising that it's great to spend time improving at maths anyway, with benefits far beyond upcoming tests. My sessions are friendly but focused, with a steady pace geared towards developing real understanding rather than simply a collection of set methods. I have a deep understanding of how learning happens in maths and when needed I can improvise the required activities or questions as sessions unfold. After finishing my A level in Weymouth, Dorset, I then went to Essex University in Colchester to study Science. Ater getting my first degree, I then decided to do a masters Degree in Chemistry and passed. In my University days, I have always loved Maths and Science and in my first year at University, I did Physics, Chemistry and Maths. I have a very high understanding of Maths because of my passion for Maths and I have solve several problems in Maths, Physics and Chemistry up to A level. I am very passionate about numbers and anything that has numbers in it, I will solve. My chemical knowledge is absolutely unbelievable. I have been taeching Chemistry and Maths longer than A level Physics but I teach A level Physics in my current School. I actually started teaching as soon as I left University in 1993. In those days, I did not have teaching qualification. I then decided to get some experience outside education. After gaining experience in Industries, I decided to get back into teaching and took my teaching qualification. I am now a fully qualified teacher and then started teaching again in September 2007. My strength in teaching has always been on a one to one basis. I do teach in a Grammar School at the moment but I always prefer to teach on a one to one basis because I enjoy helping individual student's as each student's requirement is different and you can't properly help individual student's in a class of 30 students. I am very passionate about teaching and devote a lot of my time teaching.

My tutoring style is quite unique. Being a school teacher myself, I now understand why it is so difficult for students to understand the subjects that I teach. I do not believe in pressurising students to learn. I prefer a much more relaxed atmosphere whereby the students needs and requirement is the absolute paramount. Style of teaching is also important and how you come across to the students is also very important. Investing into new ways and new ideas in order to aid students understanding is also very important. My approach to tutoring is student-centred.

Depending on the age and requirements of the student, I can adapt my teaching approach to the individual's needs. I am happy to teach groups of up to 5 students. It would work out less expensive!

Primary level would be teaching through songs and games in a fun way. Lessons usually last 30 mins, which will cost £20 per pupil for a one-to-one session. I am happy to teach a small group of pupils and the cost can be shared between them to make the lessons less expensive (£10 per pupil for 4 pupils in one session).

GCSE and A Level would be focusing on exam preparation and speaking practice, supporting the student to become more confident. I would base my teaching on supporting the subject teacher.

Adult teaching would be tailored to the individual's needs. Some students just want to improve their speaking, therefore I would tailor the lessons to accommodate their need. Some may just want to learn some basic phrases for a holiday in Germany, I would plan lessons based on that need.

I can also run grammar, conversation and writing workshops in German.

I now offer English (as a foreign language).

As an assistant professor in different countries overseas and as a lecturer/tutor in the UK universities (Oxford, Cambridge and UCL), I have had the opportunity to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in a variety of subjects ranging from organic and medicinal chemistry to drug design.
