I am an Italian national, living in the UK since the beginning of 2010.

I hold a BA (Hons) in Language Studies (Open University), with English and French (and a module of Spanish).

Apart from a brief teaching experience in the 90s, I have mostly worked in marketing.

Oh, yes, I also ran a restaurant for a few years (beginning of the 2000s), so I am quite knowledgeable about food, wines and stuff.

Currently, I am teaching English and Italian online, I have students from Russia, the UK, Portugal, Poland and Hungary.

I started teaching Spanish as a means of earning a living when I first came to the UK in 1973. Ever since then, it has always been a source of income. A little about me: I'm Shaun, an 24 year-old originally from Dulwich. I'm just finishing my first year of a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Bath, and I have a first-class MSci in Chemistry from the University of Bristol, where I also helped lead tutorials and peer-assisted study groups. After my undergraduate degree, I worked as a Specialist Junior Chemistry Demonstrator at the University of Oxford, where I gained my AFHEA accreditation (Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy). These roles gave me solid, formal teaching experience and also helped me learn how to support neurodivergent students in a calm, friendly, anxiety-reducing way that seems to work well.

Teaching Experience:
I have extensive experience teaching A-Level Chemistry, including supporting students who haven't taken A-Level Physics or Maths and therefore find the calculation-heavy topics tough. I've been tutoring privately for around 8 years, and a lot of that has focused on building confidence with moles, equilibria, rates, thermodynamics, redox, and the general maths side of the course.

For example, one of my recent tutees - who's just about to start a paramedicine degree - initially left every maths question blank. We worked on how to break questions down: how to read them properly, pick out key information, and what to do when you feel stuck. By the end, he was attempting these questions with confidence, which made a huge difference to his grade.

Tutoring Approach:
I usually teach via Zoom or Teams using an interactive online whiteboard so we can work through problems step-by-step. If you want, I can also prepare short presentations or typed notes for specific topics. Most students find online lessons just as effective as in-person, especially for structured calculation practice. It was an easy decision for me to study a Maths and Statistics degree at the University of London, obtaining a First Class Honours, and I so loved my subject that I continued on to do a PhD in Mathematical Statistics, combining both theoretical maths with application. My career then progressed to teaching and research as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the Mathematics Department at the University of Surrey, where I taught Maths and Statistics.
