I completed Nuclear Power Engineering degree studies in 1990 after 6 years of training in Havana and Moscow. Between 1990 and 2004, I worked as a Biomedical researcher in the fields of Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Vaccine Development. This involves collaboration with many European and American research teams and working visits to leading Biomedical centres in UK, Netherlands, Sweden, Germany and Spain including several UK Royal Society Fellowships and a UK Wellcome Trust International Travelling Post-doctoral Fellowship at Glasgow University Division of Immunology/Microbiology, which can be followed up by publication in peer-review scientific journals. Since 2006, I have been teaching Mathematics at GCSE and A-levels in the UK and currently, I am teaching at these levels plus International Baccalaureate Level. I have been an external marker (Mathematics in English and Spanish languages) for the International Baccalaureate Organisation for the last two years. Born in Cuba, Spanish is my mother tongue, thus i am able to tutor at any level in these two subjects: Mathematics and Spanish.

I have a Physics degree from Imperial College London, a Masters degree in Science communication from UWE Bristol and qualified as a teacher with the University of Bedfordshire. A student's personal goals are always at the centre of their development and I like to approach tutoring on an individual basis, as, particularly with music, every student learns in a way unique to them. The first lesson is generally spent getting to know students (and vice versa), understanding the approaches that work best for them and building a much needed rapport. I feel strongly that students must feel at ease and thus able to express themselves freely in lessons, as this will transfer in their music.

Areas covered will include the student's chosen instrument (can be more than one), music theory, harmony, technique, timing, technology (using DAWs or Sibelius), working within band/ensemble contexts (both musically and socially) and self-development, which includes the study of practice methods, mentality and motivation. Hello to all prospective students. My name is Mark and I have been teaching secondary level Science and maths for over 10 years. I am personally passionate about learning and endeavour to ignite the same love of learning in each student that I teach.

I have loved science and maths from a young age and went on to pursue a degree in biomedical sciences, prior to my secondary teacher training. I hope to continue to work with young people to help them realise their own goals in the fields of science and engineering.

Outside the classroom I am an avid musician and play guitar to grade 6 as well as writing and recording my own songs. I love to listen to audiobooks about ancient history and geopolitics, often whilst on a long walk in the countryside. I also like to play some sports and swim occasionally.

I have taught English for 9 years now across a number of schools in Merseyside and London. I currently work as a Lead Practitioner of English and Lead for Key Stage 4, though I have also previously led in my school on Key Stage 5 English Literature also.

I have also marked extensively at GCSE and A Level for the AQA exam board - so I know what students need to do to achieve marks - and have had a lot of success previously with predicting exam questions for GCSE Literature.
