Tutoring Approach:
My approach is not to give answer to students but help them achieve this by guiding them to understanding the situation. I want people to learn to apply their knowledge and not just memorize it. I am a qualified teacher of English with many years of study, research and training in some of the world's top universities. My qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in English Literature and the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in English. My teacher training covered English Language, Literature and Media Studies, as well as a range of abilities in the 11-18 age bracket. My interests, of benefit to many students especially at university level, include Critical Theory, Classical Literature, African Literature, History, and Bible Studies. I have guided many students doing research and proof-read their dissertations. I have also taken the official training for one-to-one tutors rolled out by the government to complement classroom teaching. I have served as marker (Examiner) in GCSE English Language and Literature with Edexcel, and in A Level English Literature with OCR. I am a specialist in the GCSE curriculum with experience of teaching AQA, Edexcel and Eduqas exam board versions.

My first teaching appointment came in 1988 in Cameroon where I taught English and African Literature, becoming an A Level examiner for the Cameroon GCE examination board in 1990. I moved to the UK in 1991 where I later obtained the PGCE and QTS, finishing my last year as Education Student of the Year in my university and receiving a national commendation for the quality of my work. I have since taught in different schools in Kent and Medway, preparing students for various exams including Functional Skills, GCSE, A Level and IB. Most of my teaching has been in selective (grammar) schools. For the last few years I have always had KS3 to KS5 students whom I tutor privately. These students have have usually achieved or exceeded their target grades at GCSE and A Level.

Tutoring Approach:
I like to establish the needs of the students and carefully review all available assessment records. If the student is preparing for an exam such as the GCSE, I would start by ensuring that the student is aware of the full requirements of the exam and establish a clear plan to cover these. I also believe in incorporating the fundamentals of English grammar which are sometimes overlooked in formal teaching settings. I like to build a good rapport with the student so that they are comfortable revealing possible areas of weakness that we could turn into strengths. I ensure that the student is given a clear structure for each exam task and then test the student to ensure that they are able to apply the strategies in exam conditions.

I am a native French speaker, aged 21, currently working in a school in Gateshead as a French Language Assistant, so I am already used to teaching my own language. I also aim to become an English teacher after completing my teaching degree in France. I will be in Newcastle until the end of May, when my contract with the school ends. After this I will go back to France to finish my studies.

I am passionate about literature and music, and would be able to teach cultural aspects of France if that is what you are looking for. I have also always loved languages since I was a child, I learnt English and German from the age of 10, I also did some Spanish and Russian at the end of secondary school, and I have been trying to learn Italian for the last few months. I would be glad to pass on this love for languages.

I studied Korean studies at the University of Sheffield and lived in Korea for one year. I am half Greek and half British (Welsh) and am fluent in both languages and very advanced in Korean language. I am a passionate musician, I started playing the drums at the age of 8 years and later played the Piano and the Bass guitar. I am currently into music production where I make music for recording artist playing the drums, piano and bass guitar. I like to mentor passionate upcoming musician and encourage them to be better in their craft. I play diverse kinds of music; Jazz, RnB, Soul/Neo-Soul, African traditional music, Contemporary gospel music. I adapt swiftly into genres of music as long as the music imparts the soul of the listeners.
