My name is Tim and I'm based in the Caerphilly area. I am happy to work anywhere in Caerphilly, Cardiff, Newport or the Valleys. I am a primary school teacher and have 24 years experience working with children within the age range 6-11.
I have worked in London and in South Wales and have taught in a range of primary schools, teaching children from many different types of background. I have a current CRB check and can provide excellent references.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a primary school teacher since 1986 and have worked across the age range from 6 to 11. I have a good deal of experience teaching children in Year 6 and preparing them for the step up to secondary school. I am able to give tuition in any primary subject but have a specialism in maths as I have been maths co-ordinator in more than one school and have an in depth knowledge of how children learn in this subject and how they can be helped to enjoy their work here and achieve good results. I also have experience of tutoring children in individual sessions and have always been able to help them to improve their standards and become more confident across the curriculum.

I am a very friendly tutor who has always been able to establish a good rapport with children of primary age. I was born in France near Paris and lived in Geneva/Switzerland for a very long time before I moved to the UK. I came here years ago to be closed to some dear friends and since then I have been residing here. .Beside tutoring, I enjoy coloured painting that I practise during my spare time. I have not done paid tutoring work before (though the offer has arisen). Mostly I have taught friends and locals or explained what I'm studying to unwitting bystanders at church or school.

I think it's most important that the student understands the essence of the subject and can think critically about it, and I like to discuss this with students until we can apply this understanding to the syllabus and the exam to come such that anything they've learned before or will learn on that topic will make sense. I get on with everybody and am able to draw out from my students what they need to know - the more honest students are about whatever is causing them difficulty, the easier it is to address it. Teaching Experience:
I am a fully qualified teacher with a PGCE from University of York and a 2(i) Bsc in Mathematics from the University of Durham. I was Head of Maths for ten years before choosing to work for myself. I teach all the exam boards (EdExcel, AQA, OCR). I taught in schools for 15 years before becoming a private Maths tutor for the last 15. I tend to do more A-level than anything else, but GCSE or KS3 are not a problem.

Tutoring Approach:
I tend to get the students to drive each session so we can focus on what they tell me is a problem, whether that's a particular topic, a piece of work they've been set, or a particular question. If in doubt, I get them doing exam questions, as that quickly reveals any issues or weaknesses. It's not a problem for me to react to whatever the student tells me they want to cover that particular week. For online students, I set up an online folder with past papers, formula sheet etc so they can also add anything they want to go through with me. When we cover a topic, I'll write up a revision card for the student for them to keep, so next time it comes up we can pull the card out.
