Hi, I'm a professional engineer with a passion for developing the next generation of STEM leaders. I've worked in both the Aerospace and Automotive industries with companies such as Airbus, Rolls-Royce, Bentley to name a few and I've given talks at universities nationwide about engineering. Half my students tend to be preparing for exams, using techniques I've perfected to help guide them through their exam periods. Most students will tend to require confidence boosting and I've had the most satisfaction being able to change opinions/beliefs about the subject, helping to show the student that they're capable of anything they set their mind to.

Since university I have enjoyed tutoring part time and full time and was also contracted for a few years by Honiton Community College to provide individual and group tutoring sessions to underachieving students, during and after school.

Teaching Experience:
I started tutoring GCSE maths part time in Year 13 (S6), providing a very structured tutoring by my school. The students engaged well and it helped to have people of a similar age that the students could relate to, enabling a more relaxed learning atmosphere. I also informally helped peers of various levels whilst at university, maths students but also engineering and foundation levels. When my services were required in a particular area, then they asked for help on short notice.

I've been tutoring full time over the past 14 years, working 7 days a week from the new academic year onward. Peak hours ranged in excess of 40hrs. I've therefore assessed the likely weaknesses of a student and have already provided and perfected the best methods of explanation.

Tutoring Approach:
Casual tutoring of areas of difficulty, or can do more structured learning of a curriculum, either intense learning (several school years of maths into months) or weekly troubleshooting. I've established good quality material for any level. Plenty of students just require good material and direction for their efforts, with positive reinforcement to really shine. Many long term students will tend to then appreciate and enjoy study, visibly moving towards their goals.

The first meeting will be free with the aim of getting to know one another, and establishing the strengths and weaknesses of the tutee, and at the pace the student requires. At which point a structured plan of action can be drawn up. In some cases the tutee may lack the confidence in certain areas, but can in fact do what's required. Even a casual troubleshooting session every now and then can set their worries at rest.

Should extracurricular material be required or wanted then I'll be happy to provide. This material might not be hard for the tutee, but will help link in various areas of mathematics and will require a little thought about the patterns seen. It's never compulsory, but with a little encouragement a little extra goes a long way.

I have a lot of experience in teaching modern languages to all ages of children and adults. I have taught in UK high schools and primary schools, I have worked for Le Club Francais (an after school French club), I have taught adults in evening classes and most recently I have taught individuals and small groups of children offering them fun French lessons and GCSE tuition. I prefer the richness of residential tuition, since cultural immersion can lead to deeper relationships and a more holistic grasp of the culture behind the language. During my education, I would often find myself clarifying points to my fellow students which they didn't grasp first time.
During my time working on NCS, a large part of my role was to get participants of all different backgrounds and interests involved and this is something which is heavily applicable to tutoring.

The fact that you are comfortable raising this issue, means that we can easily work around the matter and reach a solution which eases the situation for you.

I would also offer all my support and experience in helping you prepare for any tests or final exams. There is a lot which can be done to help you mathematically, mentally and psychologically prepare for these stressful events.

Hi, I'm Frances a friendly retired Science teacher. I am an active 60 year old lady young at heart who enjoy spending time with family and friends. I always have had a passion for teaching and love to see children achieve their potential. I graduated from London University in 1984 with a joint honours in Maths and Physics. The following year I completed my PGCE in Canterbury and then began my 32 year teaching career. During this time I had my own family and now have two grown up children both in their twenties.
