Personal Description:
The opportunity to teach both my Technical craft and Autocad has arisen more by accident than design for most of my Professional career. I am led to believe that I have a natural ability in engaging interest, particularly in younger people through a combination of both my communication skills and technical ability. This produces immediate rewards in contrast to the often lengthy process of Project work which can easily dilute job satisfaction.
I believe a fundamental part of Teaching is the ability to speak the language of the pupil - more esoteric now than ever before. Understanding and respecting their language and culture enhances the learning process and contributes to mutual satisfaction and success.

Teaching Experience:

In the 1970's and 80's my employers ; Bain, Swan Architects had a healthy Apprenticeship policy. Throughout this period, they recruited locally in conjunction with colleges in Galashiels and Ashington. I was asked if I would consider mentoring the Office's Apprentice Technicians due to my apparent communication skills and technical ability. I enjoyed this auxiliary role, particularly, as it frequently engaged me in improving my own technical education to answer their endless questions. The tuition procedure had the additional benefit of enhancing the Practice's hand-drawn presentation work through educating the apprentices in the provision of accurate, informative and harmonious drawings. This was a flair which I had developed over the years in pre-computer times and employ to this day whenever possible, despite the icy perfections of Autocad.

Working in London in the late 1990's I was invited to teach many aspects of my craft in to JJA Academy pupils in night classes. These were generally foreign students to whom I provided additional Autocad tuition, hand drafting techniques and Installation construction. I discovered that the judicious use of sketches and diagrams easily demolished any language barriers. Encouraged by the senior lecturers my confidence developed in this supplementary role.
With Wintersgill Faulkner in 1999 I was invited to create and teach a dedicated layering system in Autocad to improve the Practice's presentation output. The younger members of staff had a fairly haphazard approach to defining different materials which made their work difficult to read both on-screen and on the plotted drawings - even if it was generally correct. The principle I employed was based upon the old British Standard conventions for : colouring drawings, hatching and line density. It is rewarding to know that the same CTB file is still their standard office practice 10 years later.
By word of mouth I have taught basic 2D Autocad to several private pupils during the last 10 year period, one of whom currently has a Technical practice in Bury St. Edmunds

Tutoring Approach:

Hello - I am offering tuition services to anyone seeking a career in any aspect of Architecture or Building Construction.
35 years experience in the profession - with a full portfolio of technical and design drawings available to support this - accompanied by a comprehensive CV. describing the experience.
I can also provide an Architectural Technical Drawing service either freelance or in a permanent role.

Personal Description:
I'm thirty and have lived, worked and studied in the south Hampshire area my whole life. I love the area and intend on staying here for the foreseeable future! I'm a doctor currently working as a GP Registrar, having completed a Graduate Entry Medicine degree at the University of Southampton. I've worked in a wide range of specialities, including Child Health, Acute Medicine and General Surgery - and a stint in A&E during the Coronavirus pandemic!
Before starting my studies in Medicine, I completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. I attended Hamble Community Sports College, achieving 14 GCSEs at grade A and A* - top of my year - and Peter Symonds College, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Critical Thinking and General Studies. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively).

Teaching Experience:

During my GCSE preparation and exam period, I tutored several students in my year and below for Mathematics and Statistics, alongside their current teaching at school. I have also, however, given tuition to other adults, most of whom were taking their Mathematics GCSE as an extra qualification in order to get a promotion at work. I currently tutor students of a large range of ages, covering Key Stage 2, 3, GCSE and A Level.
I have now taught many students, ranging from ages 5 - adult, and all of those which have sat exams have at least achieved the grades they were after. I have helped students to reach required grades, supplementing class teaching, catching up on missed lessons, improving old Maths skills and more recently as a standalone teacher of the entire GCSE syllabus. I have also helped individuals gain much needed confidence in their own skills and I have a lot of experience in helping students to believe in themselves!

Tutoring Approach:

Mathematics being a specific passion of mine, I encourage students to apply their own knowledge to the question, before adding any new information. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. I've been teaching for twelve years now and I've seen many students suffer from a lack of confidence in their own ability, and I always ensure that not only does the person have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved!

Personal Description:
I am an Open University graduate having completed an BA(Hons) degree. I chose my own programme of study which consisted of French,English Language Studies with GCSE/Standard grade Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. After my degree, I undertook an A-level/Higher Grade Maths course and GCSE/Standard Grade level Latin course to keep my study skills fresh and updated whilst complimenting my degree.

Prior to this, I under went a City and Guilds in Delivering Learning which taught me the vital skills required to be able to plan and construct lessons. In conjunction to this, I have also achieved my Level 1 certificate in British Sign Language.

Teaching Experience:

I have done work with Borders College based in Galashiels where I taught adult evening classes in Mandarin Chinese, Italian and French, which I love. Seeing my students grow and learn is one of the main reasons why I entered the tutoring and teaching profession.

In addition, I have taught French to various ages ranging from Primary right through to Adult in various capacities. Furthermore, I have taught English as a Foreign Language which was a brilliant experience as it gave me a valuable insight into how people learn not only English but languages in general.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring comprises of friendliness and patience. Having studied at home for my degree, I understand the importance of a structured and warm learning environment. My motto has always been "There is no such thing as a stupid question". If you do not know the answer then the only way to find the answer out is to ask the question, whether it is for the first or tenth time. As I am so passionate about French and English along with reading and writing skills, I feel that lessons with me will be a positive, exciting and worthwhile experience.

I have always strongly believed that education is available to everyone, regardless of past experiences. The only thing that I feel matters when it comes to learning is a want to learn, if you have that then anything is possible.

Personal Description:
I am a fully qualified and experienced Maths and ICT teacher, and have taught all secondary year groups and abilities. I am also an examiner for GCSE maths for two exam boards.

I now work part-time as an online tutor, and part-time as a web developer. Both roles are flexible which means I can tutor at any time of the day and am free to adjust my schedule at short notice.

Prior to becoming a teacher, I studied aerospace engineering at university.

Teaching Experience:

I have more than 10 years classroom experience at schools in the UK and abroad. As well as teaching Maths, I have taught ICT in the majority of those schools.

As a teacher, I estimate that I must have taught well over 1000 students. Those students have come from a wealth of backgrounds and abilities. All those who have had external key exams (GCSE, A level, IB) have passed, including at least two students who were expected to fail by a significant margin.
I have had students with Special Educational Needs as well as students who are Gifted or Talented. Whilst I like to teach the whole spectrum of abilities, I find it most rewarding to teach those who are struggling because it is satisfying to see them flourish and start to enjoy the subject.

As an examiner, I am well aware of the common mistakes that students make, and why they happen. I highlight these common errors to students so that they are aware of them and can avoid making the same mistakes themselves. The better a student can understand what an examiner is looking for, the more prepared that student is for the exam.

Tutoring Approach:

When teaching online, I make use a range of resources including the online whiteboard, web apps, a physical whiteboard, pen/pencil and paper. I have access to a tablet for use with the online whiteboard and an HD document camera for demonstrations using my physical whiteboard or pen and paper.

Some student like to tell me what to do each lesson, in which case I encourage them to let me know prior to the lesson so that I can prepare myself a little. Others prefer me to choose what to do. In both situations, if students have work they would like me to check between lessons, I am happy to do so.

Personal Description:
I have graduated with a first MBiol (Hons) Biology degree at the University of St Andrews. I really enjoy biology and especially Ecology and Conservation but I am comfortable with most areas due to the highly integrated nature of the subject. Apart from my studies, I enjoy dancing as I did Latin and Ballroom lessons for 9 years and I am a recently qualified Ocean diver. I have finished high school with an International Baccalaureate diploma of 40/45 (higher level: Biology, Chemistry, Modern Greek/ Standard level: Maths, English B, Psychology).

I love working with younger people and aid them in the process of learning new things and make them enjoy a subject that I thoroughly love myself!

Teaching Experience:

During my final year of university, I have been involved with the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative (CTI) which consists of volunteering to tutor biology to students that cannot afford private tutoring but were affected by the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this position, I have taught students at A-level (both AQA and OCR boards) developing my tutoring experience and getting familiar with the specifications of different UK educational systems. Tutoring through CTI has taught me to be patient and considerate of children`s circumstances and tailor my lessons according to each person`s needs while keeping on top of the syllabus so that they can be prepared for their mocks and actual exams. Through CTI I have tutored for approximately 70 hours. I have also offered AQA, OCR and CCEA AS and A level tutoring independently. Overall I have approximately 550 hours of teaching experience.

I am currently working as an ecological consultant in the Buckinghamshire area. In addition to that, my degree had a year placement requirement, which I completed in the USA at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. In addition to this, I have had two research assistantships at my university. Through talks and presentations at both formal and informal settings, I have learnt how to tailor my knowledge to the target audience depending on their experience on the subject and their background. I also wrote publishable and concise reports which helped me on focusing on the important details of subjects.

I also have experience with a range of software and technologies, which means I can approach a wide range of lessons for all ages, with the appropriate set of tools and I can tailor each one of them to the individual`s needs effectively, and in an engaging way.

Tutoring Approach:

In terms of my approach to teaching Biology, I am trying to focus on the students` needs and what they don`t understand or need help. The student and I will discuss the subjects of interest and I`ll try to let them figure out the answers themselves rather than me giving them a ready answer. This way they will be ready to answer all types of questions rather than trying to memorise an answer and be flustered in an exam setting if something they haven`t seen before comes up. In order to achieve this, I usually prepare my lessons in advance. I give exercises to the students to complete before our sessions so we can discuss them and identify challenging topics. Once these topics have been identified, I try to explain them through audiovisual measures (diagrams and videos), as well as examples from personal experience, which places the theory in a real-life context which is more memorable. However, I understand that this method doesn`t work for everyone and therefore I am willing to adapt my teaching style to the individual`s needs.

Personal Description:
I have been playing guitar for 20 years and teaching music for 7 years. I have been involved in a variety of different bands and ensembles within that time. My main focus throughout this time has been all kinds of rock music but I also have lots of experience in metal and acoustic singer/songwriter styles. I qualified from Leeds College of Music, gaining a 2:1 degree in Music Production and Performance, and possess a passion for all genres of music and teaching. I completed a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in Higher Education Music at Edge Hill University in 2020, achieving a Distinction in the process.

Teaching Experience:

As stated above I have been tutoring in music, guitar, bass and piano for around 7 years totally around 1000 individual hours. I have experience working in colleges at BTEC level having completed a PGCE placement at Access To Music Manchester.

Tutoring Approach:

I take a professional approach to teaching and I usually like to start the student off with a song to allow them to enjoy playing their instrument immediately. No matter what their ability, I find a student is always able to learn a song they know and by adopting this approach I find they progress much faster. I can take you all the way from a very beginner through to advanced levels. I take a practical and direct approach to teaching and would expect the student to be involved from the very beginning.

Personal Description:
My name is Tia and I'm an experienced 11+ tutor with over six years of proven success helping KS2 students gain entry into top grammar and independent schools. Having personally navigated the 11+ process as a student at Newstead Wood Grammar School for Girls, I understand both the academic demands and the emotional pressures students face. I specialise in preparing pupils for GL-style exams, focusing on Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. Over the years, I have helped students secure places at selective grammar schools such as Newstead Wood, Bexley, Dartford, Tonbridge, and St. Olave's, as well as prestigious independent schools including Highgate and City of London. My tutoring style is results-driven but also supportive, ensuring each student feels confident, motivated, and prepared.

Teaching Experience:

I have been a professional tutor for six years, working with both private clients and established organisations such as Kumon. My experience spans a wide range of abilities and ages, primarily focusing on Years 3 to 6. I have a strong track record in preparing students for 11+ entrance exams, and my lessons consistently lead to tangible academic progress. Many of my students have successfully secured places at highly competitive schools. I pride myself on creating engaging, structured sessions that make learning both effective and enjoyable. I also believe in building strong relationships with parents, providing clear, honest feedback and collaborating to ensure the best outcomes for each child.

Tutoring Approach:

My lessons are built around active learning and tailored to each student's unique learning style. I start with a quick review to consolidate prior knowledge before introducing new material. For visual learners, I incorporate diagrams and visual aids; for hands-on learners, I use practice problems and interactive activities. I encourage students to ask questions and actively participate, as this deepens understanding and builds confidence. Between lessons, I set targeted tasks to reinforce skills, and I expect students to come prepared with any questions for our next session. I also keep parents updated with regular progress reports, ensuring they are informed and involved in the learning journey. My ultimate goal is to help each student reach their full potential while making the process as engaging and stress-free as possible.

Personal Description:
Build understanding, transform grades! Qualified Teacher & 1st Class Maths Specialist | Former Head of Maths providing Expert Maths education at KS3, GCSE and A-level (15+ yrs experience).

If you're looking for tuition that is focused, effective, and grounded in years of successful classroom leadership and results, I would be delighted to help. Many families' reviews reflect the positive impact of this approach, with all 5 star reviews across multiple platforms.

A recent review:

"Chris has tutored both of my children at GCSE and A level and I cannot recommend him highly enough. After moving from Canada we discovered there were significant gaps in their understanding of math due to the different curriculum and methodologies. Under Chris' tutelage both of my children have gained in confidence and were able to achieve amazing results. My youngest son's success at GCSE was such that the head of his Math's department said he had never had another student make such progress (he went from a grade 6/7 to a 9 in Maths and a 4/5 to an 8 in Further Maths). Chris has continued to teach him during A levels and he just achieved an A in his mock exam."

Teaching Experience:

Throughout my career, I've supported students across the full ability range, from building confidence at KS3 to helping students secure Grade 4 or Grade 9 at GCSE, and enabling high achievers to earn an A* in A-level Further Maths. I've taught and led Maths, Further Maths, and Statistics across KS3, GCSE, and A-level, giving me both deep subject expertise and a clear understanding of how to teach complex ideas effectively to every learner.
My experience as Head of Maths reflects more than subject mastery; it demonstrates a secure understanding of the curriculum and exam requirements across a range of courses. I know how to make learning efficient, targeted, and purposeful. I tailor each lesson to the student's starting point and use a broad range of high-quality resources to ensure the time is productive.

Over the years, I've taken on a range of Teaching and Learning responsibilities, including roles such as Head of Maths, Head of House, and Intervention Lead. These experiences have given me a strong, whole-school perspective on how students learn across different classes and year groups, as well as deep insight into how individuals and small groups develop mathematically.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that true mathematical understanding comes from mastering each topic in depth and revisiting key skills regularly. My approach ensures that students explore every concept thoroughly, working through a wide range of variations so their knowledge becomes secure and adaptable.

With most schools adopting a 'mastery' approach in Mathematics, this method is especially valuable at A-level, where the complexity and demands of exam questions have increased significantly - but it is still valuable at other levels.
In the lead-up to exams, I find that working through past papers is particularly effective. This not only strengthens familiarity with exam-style questions but also reinforces core material and highlights any areas needing further attention. Past-paper practice is essential for helping students perform confidently at the required standard.

If you're looking for focused, supportive Maths tuition that builds real confidence and mastery, I'd be delighted to help. Feel free to get in touch with any questions or to arrange your first session - and if you're not happy with the first lesson, it's completely free from me. I want to ensure you get valuable learning from the time spent.
