| About Angela: I recently retired from my job as an Assistant Headteacher and Head of Mathematics in a large comprehensive school. I would like to remain involved in a small way in teaching my subject. I retain a passion for Mathematics and believe I have the ability to help people through difficulties they may encounter at various levels. I have an Honours Degree in Mathematics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Mangement. |
Teaching Experience: I have over 40 years experience as a Maths teacher and have taught at levels from Key Stage 2 to Advanced level. My last school was a large comprehensive which became a Specialist Mathematics and Computing College and was involved in an International Mathematics teaching project with Exeter University. I was a Senior Examiner/Marker at Key Stage 3 and GCSE for many years so am very familiar with the requirements of examinations at 14 and 16. |
Tutoring Approach: Face to face tutoring may well be the best approach for my subject as it is so crucial that the tutee really understands what they are doing. However, it is also possible to discuss problems by telephone or e-mail or to set and mark work with written comments or to use a combination of these methods. I can guarantee a patient approach appropriate to the individual's needs. |

View Lisa's Profile
Types of Tutoring: From their home
| About Lisa: I am a mother of 4 children, I have also worked professionally with children for over ten years. I worked and studied part-time for several years and I have a degree in childhood studies, a foundation degree in Early Years and Education, a University certificate in Health and Social Care and I have Qualified teacher status and an enhanced CRB check. I am currently studying for my masters degree in education. As a parent I have experienced helping my own children ( aged 7 - 15) with their homework, revision for SATs, and also revision for 11+ exams. In addition to this, two of my own children have specific learning difficulties so I am aware of strategies to use to support children with special needs. |
Teaching Experience: Professionally I was initially a teaching support assistant, where I worked with both groups and individual children from year 1 to year 6 supporting them with different aspects of the curriculum. This included working with children with special educational needs. I then qualified as a teacher and I have taught in year one, year two, year three and year five. This has meant that I have taught all curriculum subjects at a variety of levels over the past few years. I work in an inner city school, and so have extensive experience of supporting children who have English as an additional language. |
Tutoring Approach: I have a calm and flexible approach to tutoring. I believe that a tutoring approach has to be child specific. Due to this I always take into account; where the child is currently academically, what the child's preferred learning style is, the child's strengths and weaknesses, and also their personality before I make any decisions on my specific approach. |

View Graham's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home
| About Graham: My name is Graham Medland, I am married with three wonderfull children, both my wife and I are currently students. My wife is studying child development with the Open University and I am in my second year at Exeter university studying Electronic engineering. please have a look at one of my projects which I submitted early this year as part of my ongoing training. dakoder.co.uk/edu/1 |
Teaching Experience: I am not a qualified teacher but have over twenty years experience in the electronics industry where cutting edge technology was the flavour of the day. I have recently completed part 1 of a training program tied to the pgce program where I spent 2 weeks at a highly respected grammer school helping out in the maths class room, I have also spent over 20 weeks in several other schools in and arround my local area to get a taste of what it would be like to be a teacher. I can supply refferences from several Headmasters and Teachers who found my attitude to the education system quite refreshing! I ran an electronics company for over fifteen years during which time I have tutored many trainees in the black art of digital and analogue electronics. I have helped a schoolgirl pass her GCSE mathematics exam with a grade B pass, her teacher predicted she would get a C or a D and felt she was a lost cause. I am very proud of her!!!! |
Tutoring Approach: My approach is quite simple. When I left school ------- I left with no qualifications !!!! So I know how most students feel when they find maths hard.... I start by going through the homework with the student, when they reach a part they are stuck on (these points are caused by either lack of confidence or lack of understanding of algebra) Lack of confidence is tackled by allowing the student to think out loud, there is NO SUCH THING as a silly question, all inquisitive questions are answered and proved by the student with my help whether the idea is right or wrong by using Algebra (ALGEBRA is the basic laws of maths and are the essential tools needed to rip maths apart) I can strip a v8-engine down to it's nuts/bolts and washers but without a box of tools I can't do anything but stare at the engine. Lack of Algebraic skill is tackled by systamatic and confident repetative use of the tools, like riding a bike you need to learn balance/starting off and stopping which can not be learnt from a black board but has to learnt by practical experience (including falling over). All of the mathematics that I work with have a real use in the real world, from Laplace transforms (electronic circuits) to quadratics (path of a ball in the air) I can explain and demonstrate the reason why the student is learning what they are. I limit the time spent with the student to one hour or there abouts (depending how the session is going), for some reason any more time spent is not as productive. |

View Joel's Profile
Types of Tutoring: From their home / Online
| About Joel: I am a recent maths graduate who is friendly, calm and patient. I enjoy explaining concepts to people who are eager to learn and get particular pleasure in seeing them fully grasp and understand a topic. Having studied maths for many years I feel I am well aware of what a student wants and needs and would like to apply that to my tutoring |
Teaching Experience: No official teaching experience but have helped family members, friends and course-mates throughout the time of my own studying. |
Tutoring Approach: Having only recently finished studying the subject, I am aware of what the pupil requires in terms of different approaches, extra attention on certain issues, examples, definitions and theory. It is important to teach someone in a way that is beneficial to them, and at a pace that they are comfortable with. I would intend to tailor my tutoring based on the ability and understanding of the individual and in order for them to gain maximum output. |

View Ahmad's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / From their home / Online
| About Ahmad: Hi, I am a Marketing and Supply Chain & Logistics specialist with 5 years of industrial experience. In completing my CIM professional, I realised that the teaching system by CIM study centres were inadequate in order to ensure student success, especially when they cramp syllabus into block courses. As a result, many had to search for independent tutors for extra support. With a passing rate of 50% average on most of the modules, many had also failed. Having experienced this first hand, I aspire to help fellow CIM and other marketing students to make their money's worth in succeeding in the subject I passionately teach. |
Teaching Experience: I have taught CIM students on all levels: Professional Certificate, Professional Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma. I have also tutored BA and MA level university students and help them preparing marketing plans and marketing communication plans for their assignments. But mostly, my tutees are those undertaking marketing courses online and self study. Usually, I will offer a discounted rate for the first session and if the tutees are happy and wish to continue with follow up sessions, normal rate will then apply. |
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring in my sessions is very flexible and depend entirely on the tutee's requirements. Depending on their needs and level, I may focus on syllabus coverage, exam techniques or coursework assistance. Usually I tend to focus more on exam techniques and coursework assistance as syllabus are typically covered in their classrooms. In exam techniques, my approach will be on providing the answer frameworks, selection of correct strategic models and providing examples of theoretical implementation. At this level, examiners typically expect students to be able to demonstrate the ability to apply theoretical knowledge on real life examples. Thus, my sessions will make sure that students will have the ability to attempt their answers in a strategic and operational context. Mock questions will be provided and exam room strategy will also be discussed in my sessions. |

View Jo's Profile
Types of Tutoring: Travels to you / Online
| About Jo: I'm an enthusiastic recent Law graduate. I've been in continuous education for nearly 18 years and now I feel it's time to give something back! I've always enjoyed English and am continuing to study it at A-level now through ICS. I love reading all sorts of styles from pre 1900s prose, modern literature, to poetry and drama. I have a passion for the subject and I believe this is a key element required when tutoring a subject. I studied law at A-level and for my degree and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with particular expertise on the English legal system and European Union law. |
Teaching Experience: Whilst I have no formal teaching experience, I do have experience tutoring younger relations at KS3, and work experience in a Primary school, and aiding a language student in a Spanish school. I have additional experience working with children on a general basis from helping at a local Rainbows group and looking after small groups of children, as well as larger ones. I studied Psychology and Education as part of my Psychology A-Level and this gave me some perspective. This will be my first attempt at tutoring on a professional basis but I had a tutor during a couple of my exams and so plan on drawing from their techniques. Qualifications: I have 10 GCSE's, all A-C passes, including maths, English language, English literature and Science. I also have 3 A-levels in Law, Psychology and Business Studies. I'm currently undertaking a 4th in English Literature. I've got 2 AS Levels in American History and Philosophy. |
Tutoring Approach: Before tutoring I would like to have an informal meeting with the guardian and the potential student so we can establish suitability, areas of particular interest or difficulty and learning preferences. This gives you the chance to get to know me before committing to my tutoring service. I believe learning is an entirely personal experience; each person has their own preferences on how they would like to learn and gain a wider understanding through certain methods. My approach is tailored to suit the individual, if there is any aspect that you require me to do differently then let me know and I'll do my best to accommodate you! |
