Tutoring Approach:
The joy of individual private tutoring is the extent to which it is tailored to the individual student. I always seek to ensure that the student has a learning experience appropriate to their level and interests. In particular, I try to utilise real-life examples to make problems relevant where possible.
I enjoy enhancing the knowledge of young people, perhaps making them consider the topics being taught in a new light, or exposing them to areas beyond the exam syllabus. I do not enjoy the rigid 'box ticking' of exams - learning should be fun! Of course, I can work towards a particular exam with a student, and can hopefully offer some tips on exam technique as well. When working towards a particular exam, as we so often do in life, I believe in practice practice practice. This usually means doing a lot of past papers!

Whether it was helping with their homework, re-explaining new topics learnt in the classroom, working through many practice questions, or extending their knowledge by working through more difficult examples, I helped each child to become more confident in their maths abilities.

Tutoring Approach:
With so many new maths topics being introduced to children at school, often many children do not understand one topic, and then another one is being introduced. I think this can make the child feel very overwhelmed and they end up getting each new topic confused with the last!

When I tutor students, I hope to build their confidence so they feel like they can tackle any maths problem. This is particularly important for exams and tests. I try to explain new topics in simple terms and then make sure they have plenty of experience doing practice questions so they are familiar with the many ways in which the same question can be asked. I honestly believe 'practice makes perfect!'

Teaching Experience:
I have been a teacher for 12 years. I have always wanted to be a teacher. I have worked in several schools now, gaining experience from working with a variety of learners of various ages and learning styles. I have worked within the requirements of more than one examing board, therefore I am quite familiar with all exam formats. I have been a tutor also for 10 years with very good results. Students do like me within first session, gaining confidence and self reassurance that they are capable of a lot already. Only some issues need re-addressing, building on their prior knowledge.

Tutoring Approach:
Within the first session, I discover the individual needs of my learners, their strengths and weaknesses. Then I devise a plan to address the whole programme of study within the number of weeks available, so no topic is ignored. I work simultaneously on exam requirements, but also on skill development, skills that the student can benefit from, outside the boundaries of a specific exam format. Students find themselves forgetting the time, often engrossed in their work, mentally challenged and stimulated. I set short homework at times, so that students can practise independently on those skills they develop with me, being reassured that they can transfer those skills further. I do provide learning materials which I do personalize for each student.

Tutoring Approach:
Having worked with such a wide range of clients I have found that each student is unique and will respond to differing tuition approaches. With this in mind my approach always involves a dialogue with the client in order to best establish a plan which will suit their needs.

One to one teaching, by its nature, is very intense, so it is very important to introduce variety as much as possible. A mixture of written work, as well as oral work, if required is essential to keep the tutee focused and interested in what you are teaching. It helps, sometimes, after an intense session, fot the tutee to have a short break, before continuing.

I am an experienced Private Tutor of English, in addition to this I have experience of working as a classroom assistant within a secondary provision. I also voluntarily tutor a primary aged child with spelling , grammar and pronunciation fortnightly.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that a concrete understanding of the texts/works under examination is necessary for success. To achieve this I use variable methods of discussion , close passage analysis, secondary sources , re-reading of texts , the use of other mediums (such as videos, tapes - PLEASE NOTE - videos will not be watched during lesson time). However, the most important thing to note is that my approach to tutoring varies depending with the tutee - effective learning techniques , strengths and weaknesses will all be discussed to develop a structured and efficient learning plan.
