I am a postgraduate from the Documentary Photography course at Univeristy of Wales, Newport (graduated in 2000). I have worked as a professional freelance photographer since graduating giving photography classes, workshops and conferences to students of all levels and ages. I have extensive experience a reportage photographer, not only in undertaking magazine assignments but also wedding and portrait work. As a photographer and tutor I can offer an in-depth knowledge of darkroom practice as well as digital software editing(i.e. Photoshop, Capture One Pro, Lightroom), having worked both with film and digital media for the past 15 years.

I have over ten years experience in giving photography classes and workshops to young learners (residential camps giving classes to children aged 11-16 years of age) and adults at all levels and abilities. My approach to teaching is contextual and task based. I plan and work to the individual needs of the pupil(s), making sure that the classes are instructive, concise and interesting. I believe with these elements the student feels more stimulated and the information in the learning process is absorbed more easily. Above all I concentrate on the student's individual learning potential by giving them the confidence as well as positive and constructive feedback throughout the lessons. I can also use such tools as Skype and a whiteboard to provide online distance learning, when travel is not possible for myself or the learner.

Most of my adult life, I have lived in an English speaking country but I lived and went to university in my home country of Ecuador until I was 25 years old. I did part of my University studies in Ecuador and 5 years in the United States as well.

I have lived in the UK since 2010 and I have taught GCSE and A level Spanish for more than 14 years. I also have experience teaching Primary school children.

Regarding translations, I had the opportunity to work at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for one year using my knowledge in Spanish and English.

It is important to get to know and understand my students' needs, strengths and weaknesses; why they need extra tuition and what their timeline or deadline or objective is, if any; I will then tailor the lessons to suit. I actively encourage my students to immerse themselves in language in all its' forms. Learning doesn't stop when the lesson stops. I set homework relative to each students' needs and set learning objectives accordingly. By working together, we can ensure that learning aims become positive and successful achievements!

My classes and lessons are interactive and I try to use realia and real life situations to model language and grammar. I use contemporary and classic fiction and a range of non-fiction texts. I also use lots of visual activities and promote literacy and good computer and handwriting skills too. I believe that whilst it is important to pass exams, learning experiences should also have a good dose of fun, at all ages!

Having completed my first degree in French and German at Oxford University in June 2013, I returned to Belfast to complete first a MA in Medieval History, and then a further MA in Translation Studies.

At the same time, I began building up a portfolio career as a freelance tutor and translator, allowing me to live out my passion for language, literature, and culture (alongside digger manuals, pharmaceutical texts, and other oddities) on a daily basis.

My teaching experience dates back to my undergraduate years. At Oxford I gained two years' experience with Jacari, a charity that teaches English to local children of a different mother tongue. I also provided tuition to students of GCSE history in local Oxford schools.

I spent my year abroad teaching English to pupils aged 10 to 19 at a German grammar school, and have since instructed a number of tutees of ages 8 to 65+ in English Language, French, German and Italian.
