About Emese:
I am a native Hungarian specialises in Hungarian folk music, with long-term experience performing and teaching violin.
I studied classical music up to secondary school level and then continued my studies privately for three years with the lead violinist of the Tukros Hungarian folk music band. I also have a strong interest in Jazz and classical music.
In 2005 I graduated from the University of Szeged (Hungary) with a master degree in communications. I chose to study communication because of my great interest in world cultures, and through my education, I wanted to understand other cultures in an objective way.

Teaching Experience:

I play violin since I was 7 started to learn classical music. I joined the local folk music group belonged to the folk dance group to do the musical accompliment performing productions. During these years I continued my studies in classical music until I finished the High School and went to University. (These details are involved in my CV). I had such a strong interest in playing Hungarian folk music, so I had private tutors to improve my improvisation skills.

During the university years I was asked to do musical accomplishment for another dance group which was very highly qualified collective including the musical and dance side as well. I was also asked to teach the recruitment for the same group. I had students aged 6-13 from beginners to high level ready to go to stage. I had to teach theory of music explaining how to read music.

I was asked to be the violin teacher for special music camp in the summer where the children had to learn several countries` folk dance songs strictly keeping the specific traits.
That is fact I have never taught classical music but the Hungarian folk music is such a difficult tunes to play that sometimes is more complicated to cope with it than with the classical compositions. I feel able to teach any range of musical styles and the age group or the knowledge of the students does not matter either.

Tutoring Approach:

I prefer to teach music by following and listening to the melody and rhythm because, I believe, that only this is the emotion conveyed and the structure at the music understood. I teach folk and classical music and I believe that the student should be free to choose the composition to play; this is especially important for beginners because it motivates to continue to improve.

Hi,

I plan you child's curriculum the first time as a free consultation lesson to get to know your child and the level they currently working at.

I have had a lot of past experience tutoring children of all age groups and in different subjects. Studying Child Psychology allows me to have a different take on tutoring and how it is best for the child to study. I have 3 A levels and 9 GCSES in all relevant teaching subjects.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very different approach to tutoring. I allow children to let me know their needs and the ability level they think they are currently working at. I can then provide relevant homework and tests to see if they are at that level or where i need to work more to help them achieve their full potential. I also plan their curriculum free for them! This helps me to help the child get the most out of the lesson. I have a wide range of teaching material such as textbooks, games, Cd's, online learning tasks and visual learning. I feel children work best when having a variety of materials to choose from. I make tutoring sessions enjoyable for the child as well as getting the best learning possible out of it.

I look forward to working with you and your child!

About Julian:
I am passionate about Geography! I believe it is THE subject that defines our era.
This philosophy informs my approach to teaching vibrant, exciting student-friendly lessons in school and similar sessions in the tutoring experience.
My pre-teaching background in both the media industry and working for a international non-governmental organisation have provided me with a wealth of case studies and experiences that bring to life my teaching and tutoring.
I completed my degree only two years ago, so my knowledge base, specialising in the human and environmental geographies, is vast and up-to-date.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in Watford's best state school for two years. Prior to this I was the director of education at an established UK children's charity.
During my brief career to date I have been quick to establish myself as a dynamic, confident and compelling teacher. Improving all the time, my successful engagement with students is evidenced by over 70% take up of GCSE by my two year 9 groups.
I develop student-friendly resources that have been adopted across the department by other colleagues. I lead the department on many ICT-related developments.
In this short time I have experienced a range of school activities - from organising field trips to form tutorship.
Some quotes from my ongoing assessment:
"JC was able to bring in a wide range of specific examples to complement both his and student's points"
"You questioned and answered with confidence"
"I watched you teaching this aspect of phys geog six months ago and there is no comparison between your confidence with the material then and now - very good"
"Many of the facts came from pupils but Julian added much more and appeared very confident with the knowledge of the topic."

Tutoring Approach:

For some students, gaining confidence with many of the concepts and ideas presented in geography at Key Stage 4 or 5 is difficult - especially considering the pressures of coursework, ongoing assessment and the natural workload provided by other subjects. Yet these concepts underpin much of the reality that geography deals with.
My approach to tutoring is to enthuse the often overwhelmed student first and foremost with 'real', accessible geography. By using interactive ICT-based resources and practical assessment tools such as course guides, question mark schemes and exemplar work, the student can access previously hard-to-grasp material, and gain a critical understanding of the assessment process.
My belief is that you would not attempt to fix a car without instructions. I help the student interpret the manual to their course so they themselves can get behind the wheel and drive to success!

About Janis:
I teach part time in a secondary school in Inverness but now that my two daughters have flown the nest I have some spare time to give private tuition. I love my subject and enjoy the challenge of passing on this enthusiasm to others however reluctant they may be!

After teaching English for many years, I had a short break to have a family. During this time I was employed by Oxford University as an external marker for 'O' Level English Language examination papers. Later, I trained in Special Educational Needs as I was interested in the reasons why so many children find accessing the curriculum a problem. This gave me a greater insight into the importance of treating each child as an individual and the need to tailor my teaching to suit different learning styles. I gained Chartered Teacher status in 2007.

Teaching Experience:

* 1976 - 1991 - Full time English Teacher (inc HOD English Dept) in a large comprehensive school - Inner London Education Authority.

* 1991 - 1992 - Part Time SEN Teacher in a Middle School - Merton Authority
1992 - 1993 - SENCO - Middle School - Merton Authority

* 1994 - 2004 - Full time ASN Teacher in a large secondary school - Inverness Region (Highland)
2004 - present day - Part Time ASN teacher - as above.

Tutoring Approach:

I have been told that my approach is friendly and fun but I can be firm if need be. I base the tutor/tutee relationship on mutual respect. I will always try my hardest to bring out the best in the people with whom I work and in return I hope that they will give me their best too.

After an introductory session, I like to plan the goals and targets and deadlines in advance so that we know what we are working towards. Of course, within this, there is also the need for flexibility based on the rate of progress made.

About George:
28 year old male born and grew up in Greece. I have university degree in electronics and I am very good in physics and maths. Also, I have very long experience playing and composing music especially with guitar.

Teaching Experience:

1 year experience teaching greek language and guitar lessons in new york city.

Tutoring Approach:

Check the level of knowledge of the person and accordingly start to improve the person's knowledge from that level and above. Also, depending on the individual's personal abilities, we move faster or slower accordingly. Its also good to try not to leave any gaps at all in the process, because after a while those gaps can become worse by time.

About Lawrence:
I am a Chartered Electronics Engineer with 25+ year's all-round post-graduate experience in a variety of academic, industrial and research environments. I am married and have a teenage son.

Teaching Experience:

I received a BA (Hons) in Electronic Engineering and MSc in Opto-Electronics from Essex University where I lectured in electronics and communication systems. I have also taught at Bradford University and at Open University summer schools.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to cultivate a deeper understanding of the subject rather than merely a superficial set of facts and problem-solving rules.

I also believe that learning is best achieved by actively engaging in the subject - you learn by doing - not by just being a spectator. Practice and experience count more than anything else - the more you do the easier it gets and the better you get at doing it.

About Rebecca:
I am a young, patient and approachable person. I like to teach in a relaxed way which engages students fully in lessons. I care about the achievements of all of my pupils and do my utmost to allow students to achieve their best. I am a teacher in a sucessful North London secondary school and work very hard for all my students.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught in 2 north London schools at key stage 3 and key stage 4 for general science and A level for biology which is my specialist subject. I graduated with a 1st class hons. degree in microbiology from Imperial College and have A levels in maths, biology and RS. I am experienced in tutoring both maths and science and am happy to offer a combination of both or either individually.
I was a part of a department that received an outstanding status from Ofsted and have been involved in extensive revision sessions for GCSE students.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a relaxed and calm approach to teaching and to tutoring. I expect pupils to respond and to contribute to my lessons . I have tutored my present A2 class for their exams in which they did very well. I am passionate about science and do not want to put anyone off by a strict or too rigid approach to the subject.

For exam revision I find the best way is to work from a range of exam papers and questions and then to focus in on the various aspects. In this way pupils can understand everything about a topic and learn how it fits in with the rest of the subject as well as the necessary details.
I am also very happy to do one of revision sessions if needed.

About Dirk:
I am an exchange student from Germany and I am studying physics at the University of Surrey for this year. The level of my english is about intermidiate to upper-intermidiate.

Teaching Experience:

I am giving private lessons in the subjects maths and physics for about 3-4 years. During this time I had about 20 pupils, who were very satisfied with me.

Tutoring Approach:

The approach to tutoring is allways different, depends on the needs of the pupils. But generely I let the pupils speak about that things they have not understand and during this time I recognize the problem, wich the pupils have.

About Rachael:
I have always had a passion for education and teaching. I am currently completing a Masters in Philosophy and Religion. In September I will be commencing a Secondary PGCE in Religious Education. I enjoy working with children and have sound knowledge of children's unique educational needs. When teaching children my overall aim is to help them recognise their true potential by developing their self esteem and confidence and providing them with the necessary skills to tackling their work more independently and positively.

Teaching Experience:

Over the past three years I have worked as a literacy tutor and supervisor for the charity Springboard for Children. Throughout this time I have obtained accreditation from the Open College Network in teaching children with literacy needs. I am able to plan lessons, set IEP's (Individual Educational Plan), structure my time effectively and provide lessons which are multi-sensory and child specific. I have taught children aged between five and eleven with a range of learning difficulties, e.g. dyslexia, behavioural, autistic, English as a second language and those that simply need a booster. I find teaching children with special educational needs (SEN) extremely rewarding.

Tutoring Approach:

After assessing the child's current literacy abilities I will devise an Individual Education Plan (IEP). This will outline their current skills and provide long and short term targets for the literacy tuition. I adopt a synthetic phonics approach to teaching. Emphasis is placed on letter sounds opposed to sight vocabulary. I've found that Synthetic Phonics work well for those children with SEN and beginning readers. I first teach children the letter sounds and then help them blend these sounds together to form words. This process eventually aids children to construct the pronunciation for themselves; allowing them to tackle unfamiliar words they meet in text independently.

About Claudia:
I am an experienced and professional native Spanish speaking teacher.

Teaching Experience:

I have gained experience teaching Spanish as a foreign language for the last 5 years. One of the places was in Argentina in the Britannia Institute, where I was an English Teacher but I also taught Spanish to foreign people who wanted to live or study there. The other place where I have gained experience is in the UK. I have been teaching Spanish to people of all ages and at all levels, for example, helping adults to achieve goals in their business, to achieve ELE exams or simply broaden their knowledge. I have also taught children who are taking the GCSE or A Level exams.

Tutoring Approach:

Apart from being a very friendly person I am also very calm and patient. I plan each class according to the interests and needs of the student, ensuring they get the most out of each lesson. Most of my lessons are based on the Task Dased Approach.

About alice:
I graduated from the University of Bath in 2004 with an MBiol (combined BSc and MSc) in Molecular and Cellular Biology, for which I obtained first class honours. Since then I have been working in a biochemical research laboratory at Harvard Medical School and have obtained several publications. I have recently started an MSc in Genetic Counselling at Manchester University, but will be living in London most of the week, and therefore available for tutoring most week nights and also on weekends. I will also be available for tutoring during the daytime in school holidays.
I have a mainly biological background, however I also did Chemistry and Maths to A-Level (and obtained A grades for both of these) and I took some Chemistry classes for my undergraduate degree.
I am responsible and reliable and have good communication skills.

Teaching Experience:

I started tutoring last year and since then have worked with 14 students ranging from 10 to 16 years old. The subjects I have had taught include Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Maths. I have worked with students both on a regular basis to help them as they progress through their year, and on a more short term, intensive level in order to help prepare them for exams. I also worked for 3 months as a volunteer in a school for children with special needs.

Tutoring Approach:

I feel that one of the most important things is to make the subject exciting and interesting for the student, as this will make them much more receptive to teaching and will make it easier for them to learn, understand and remember the concepts. I also think that the approach taken to teaching will vary depending on the personality and abilities of each student, for example problem solving examples may work better for some students, whereas a more theory based lesson will work better for others. I think it is important for the student to have consistency in their tutoring, and I will be available over the next 2 years and therefore will be able to take on long term students.
