Among many music courses I have attended, my training includes a Diploma in Popular Music Performance at the highly commended Tech Music School in London, and a Fist Class Honours degree in Music Technology with Popular Music Performance.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching since 2001, initially primary and secondary aged students. This was performance based tutoring at weekend classes including some one to one sessions. Iain was born in 1986 in Dundee, Scotland into a large musical family, so unsurprisingly making music was all that he wanted to do from an early age. He first began to learn the trumpet in school aged seven, before joining his local brass band Dundee Instrumental on cornet at the age of ten. By the age of twelve, Iain had been promoted to principal cornet, a position he later went on to hold with several of Scotland's top bands, also including the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland. Many solo competitions were won along the way - including the junior section at the British Open Solo Championships at age eleven. Having gained two Trinity College diplomas before the age of eighteen, Iain took the advice of teacher David James and moved south to study music at the University of Salford, where his playing really began to blossom. Since then Iain has held positions as principal cornet with many of the UK's leading brass bands including his current seat with the world renowned Leyland Band. He has enjoyed many successful contest and concert performances, and is fast establishing a reputation as one of the finest cornet soloists of his generation, performing, adjudicating and giving master-classes as far afield as the USA, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Japan. In 2009 Iain was the recipient of a prestigious Dewar Arts award, awarded for performance in trumpet. This award allowed him to complete his postgraduate studies at Salford, graduating with an MA in Music (performance) in 2010. Iain is now a cornet tutor at the University of Salford where he is also undertaking researchinto focal dystonia in musicians, working towards a PhD. Personal Description:
As a native German with an Engineering degree I have been teaching and tutoring both in Germany and in the UK for decades. My focus is GCSE Maths either in face-to-face lessons or remotely online.
I have been living in the UK for 18 years and offered exam preparation, home work support or topic workshops for GCSE students, re-sit candidates or 13+ test students..

Teaching Experience:
During my own education I gained 6 years of experience in 1-to-1 tutoring in English, German and Maths with children in primary and secondary school.
During my time at university I added another 4 years of experience as teacher of Maths and Economy (Adult and student education).
Being a parent myself, I have been supporting my own children in both A-Level and GCSE revisions in the UK.

As a highly motivated and experienced tutor with a keen love for education I offer one-to-one exam prep or small group tutoring either at your home, at your preferred location or online.

Tutoring Approach:
My aim is to provide a deep understanding and confidence in answering GCSE exam questions and in being able to use transferrable skills to solve new problems and tasks.

I use a range of methods, e.g. standard texts/worksheets and new GCSE 9-1 materials.
The first session involves getting to know the student, finding out what their aims are for the tuition and what motivates them to learn.
I encourage students to think independent and use real-life examples wherever possible to show them how to apply their knowledge and skills.

Ultimately the goal is to pass the GCSE exam as good as possible.
I usually focus on past paper questions in order to practice and improve the student's technique and check if he/she can perform in the provided time.
I also vary the techniques, demonstrate various logical thoughts to solve a problem and show them how to use of numbers and graphs effectively to double-check answers.
