Tutoring in School
After leaving full time teaching, I have worked in quite a number of different Primary Schools tutoring pupils who have fallen behind with their Maths or English studies. This has been both on a 121 basis as well as tutoring small groups of pupils.
A recent block of work in school involved working four days per week at a local Primary School in Crawley from January to the end of May. Not only did I work with pupils on a 121 basis but also in a small group setting assisting them with Maths and English, I also took a large group of pupils from Year 6 every morning to help prepare them for their SATS papers. During this time, I worked with pupils from each of the eight classes within the KS2 section of the school preparing all of my own lessons based on the work each teacher asked me to focus on with the pupils.

Since March 2026 I have worked in a local secondary school in Horsham tutoring Year 11 pupils on the spectrum for autism for Entry Level 3 Maths, Functional Skills Level 1 and 2 Maths and GCSE Foundation Maths up to and including Grade 5. All of this work has been in preparation towards their exams.
Due to the work completed in the school since March, I have been asked to continue tutoring Maths in the school in September with both year 10 and Year 11 pupils tutoring six sessions per week on a 1:1 basis.

Working with pupils who are not in school
During the last 12 years I have also worked with pupils who for a variety of reasons, are not in full time education. This has been anything from two to three hours per day varying between one day per week to four days per week. Although the age of the pupils has been between 7 to 16 years, they have all been within the KS2 bracket of learning for Maths and English. This work has normally taken place at the pupils care home, in their foster parents home or occasionally, in their own home.

Present Private Tutoring Work
I have just finished working with a Year 4 pupil tutoring him 1 hour per week for Maths and I am presently tutoring a Year 6 pupil in Maths for two hours per week. The family have asked me to continue tutoring in September when their son goes into secondary in school in order to enable him to gain a good grade in GCSE Maths. I am also tutoring a year 10/11 student for GCSE Foundation Maths one hour per week.

Teaching Experience:
Over 15 years private tutoring experience tutoring pupils of a wide range of ability in their own homes after school. This has included assisting children both with their Maths and English KS2.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm thirty and have lived, worked and studied in the south Hampshire area my whole life. I love the area and intend on staying here for the foreseeable future! I'm a doctor currently working as a GP Registrar, having completed a Graduate Entry Medicine degree at the University of Southampton. I've worked in a wide range of specialities, including Child Health, Acute Medicine and General Surgery - and a stint in A&E during the Coronavirus pandemic!
Before starting my studies in Medicine, I completed my BSc. (Hons) Human Physiology at the University of Portsmouth in 2015. I attended Hamble Community Sports College, achieving 14 GCSEs at grade A and A* - top of my year - and Peter Symonds College, studying Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Critical Thinking and General Studies. My Mathematics and Statistics GCSE (taken a year early) were the highest the school had ever achieved, both gaining an A* (99.5% and 100% respectively).

Teaching Experience:
During my GCSE preparation and exam period, I tutored several students in my year and below for Mathematics and Statistics, alongside their current teaching at school. I have also, however, given tuition to other adults, most of whom were taking their Mathematics GCSE as an extra qualification in order to get a promotion at work. I currently tutor students of a large range of ages, covering Key Stage 2, 3, GCSE and A Level.
I have now taught many students, ranging from ages 5 - adult, and all of those which have sat exams have at least achieved the grades they were after. I have helped students to reach required grades, supplementing class teaching, catching up on missed lessons, improving old Maths skills and more recently as a standalone teacher of the entire GCSE syllabus. I have also helped individuals gain much needed confidence in their own skills and I have a lot of experience in helping students to believe in themselves!

Tutoring Approach:
Mathematics being a specific passion of mine, I encourage students to apply their own knowledge to the question, before adding any new information. By showing proof of how a calculation or question works, I believe that anyone can grasp a method if they are shown the reason behind its usage. I believe I can offer an alternative to the class driven method of teaching, and allow students to gain aptitude in spotting the need for a calculation just by reading the question, and hopefully then on to creating their own calculations and solutions! I also aim to make a heavy question of 5 or 6 marks appear to be just a group of smaller questions, making each mark easier to get. I've been teaching for twelve years now and I've seen many students suffer from a lack of confidence in their own ability, and I always ensure that not only does the person have core, and advanced knowledge, but that they have confidence in the fact that anything can be achieved!

I have a BA Honours Degree in English Studies from Aleppo University in Syria in 2000. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. In 2002, I was fortunate in gaining a scholarship to study in the UK and was nominated to study in the department of Language and Linguistics at the University of Essex. I found this course to be immensely useful to me as a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) professional as I was able to observe a range of different EAP (English for Academic Purposes)classrooms; make academic presentations and really developed my love of scholarship which fired me with the enthusiasm to read for a PhD degree. I finished my doctorate in TESOL at the University of Ulster entitled "EAP Teachers Approaches to Giving Written Feedback on Academic Writing in British and Syrian ELT Centres". . I am extremely interested in teaching the language skills (as my recent doctorate shows). I am extremely hard working and sociable. I have good comparative knowledge of Western and Islamic societies which I could share with students where pertinent. It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. Personal Description:
I very much enjoy working with other people and passing on what I have learnt. I find it wonderful seeing people with that lightbulb moment when everything just clicks into place. I work in my local area of Plymouth and online. I use Skype and gmail classroom but can download other software if required I also use an interactive whiteboard and two monitors to help facilitate a good working environment.

Teaching Experience:
I have over ten year's main stream teaching experience in a classroom environment and eight years as a tutor/specialist. I've taught Music, English, Science, Maths, Art and Primary (KS 1 - 5). I`ve run my own department. As I'm also a musician I've taught guitar, cello, violin, keyboards and music theory. I use many different approaches to encourage development. When you see someone understand, learn and expand it is (in my opinion) fantastic.
I'm experienced in working with SEN. I`ve achieved excellent results with pupils with specific learning difficulties and behavioural problems. My experiences in this area are in Down syndrome, dyslexia dyspraxia, ADHD, Asperger's, ASD, verbal dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder. I've also taught pupils with cerebral palsy, deafness and visual acuity problems. I`ve completed a basic sign language course & RPM for ASD. I did this so I could communicate with pupils, without relying on a teaching assistant to translate for them/me.
Apart from classroom teaching and tutoring I've also been a curriculum coordinator for people with ASD. I specialize in helping clients with learning difficulties and disabilities (ASD, ADHD, Asperses, & dyslexia/dyspraxia). This role involved designing a unique syllabus/curriculum and managed a group of educators.

I believe it`s very important to understand how people approach learning. Everyone learns differently. I like to understand a pupils strengths through looking at how they learn (Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic (VAK)). I take the information I learn and find the best way to adapt teaching/learning. I am a former Head of Geography, now working as a part-time Teacher and Tutor. I work with only a few students, in order to devote my time to providing excellent lessons with plenty of feedback and follow-up.

I formerly taught English as a Foreign Language, and have a Diploma in this area of teaching (DELTA), so can offer EFL to adults or children. This includes English conversation, pronunciation and help with proof-reading.

My name is Jamie. I'm a maths graduate from the University of Bath (MMath). I was a Maths Teacher and Key Stage 5 Coordinator at a well-known and very successful secondary school and sixth form in Bath.

I have been a Maths tutor on and off since I was in sixth form and have over 10 years' experience across a variety of ages and abilities (as well as 5 years' experience as a teacher). I'm fortunate that I discovered my passion for teaching and tutoring at a relatively young age, and I have already been able to guide many students at primary, secondary and sixth form level towards their goals.

I have now chosen to become a tutor full-time. It is incredibly rewarding to continue sharing my knowledge and insights with any students who wish to learn. If I can pass on just a little bit of my infectious enthusiasm for the subject at the same time, then all the better!

In total, I have over 10 years of experience tutoring. This would have started when I was in sixth form studying for my A-levels, then continuing on and off through my time at University and during my career as a teacher. During this time, I have tutored students at primary, secondary, sixth form, and university level, some being short term in the lead up to exams and others being long term.

I also have 5 years' experience as a teacher, and in my last year I was appointed Key Stage 5 Maths Coordinator for my school, giving me responsibility for all of our A-level students. During my teaching career, I was lucky enough to teach groups of all levels - from lower Year 7 right the way up to Year 13 Further Maths A-level.

My experience, both tutoring and teaching, has been invaluable in helping shape the tutor I strive to be going forwards.

I believe a simple approach to tutoring is the best one. I aim to work closely with my tutees to identify their goals, and create a plan of action to follow to give them the very best chance of success. My experience will enable me to deliver high-quality lessons with unique insights, and these can be supplemented with homework and independent tasks to consolidate knowledge and cement understanding.

Regular communication between tutee and tutor is key, and maintaining this with my tutees throughout their journey with me is one of my highest priorities. This way, we can celebrate successes and milestones towards our goal, but also intervene in good time if any part of our action plan needs adjusting. In the same way, I would always encourage tutees to approach me to share their thoughts on how things are going, so that I can continue with what's working and revise things which can be improved.

As a youngster I always enjoyed art and sold my first paintings in my early teens. I then trained and studied the history of art at Maidstone College of Art and at The University of Wales.

After a career in graphic design & communications I re-started my career as an artist in 2014. I have been a member of various art groups for several years and I have been fortunate to win awards at local art exhibitions.

I paint landscapes and figurative subjects in a suggestive and vibrant style, and draw inspiration from mood and atmosphere in the world around me. I exhibit and sell locally and my work is gaining in popularity in local galleries. I also run workshops.

I am inspired by my contemporaries who push the boundaries of their respective media. I am also often reminded of my early successes and the artists who inspired me as a student. My goals are to find new surprises by combining persistence with experimentation and 'happy accident'.

Teaching Experience:
I have been running weekly adult acrylic painting mini-workshops since February 2022. These have proved popular with beginners and experienced painters alike. I have also given one-to-one private tuition to several adult students.

My emphasis is on discovering and learning and breaking down barriers in a relaxed and friendly environment. Painting should be fun, and limitation of technical skill should not be a barrier to expression. I encourage experimentation and offer guidance. I have a PhD in Probability Theory from the University of Warwick and am currently a research Data Scientist in the crop science sector and a supervisor and an affiliate lecturer at the University of Cambridge. My training is in theoretical mathematics but I love the applied side of maths and coding (modelling, data analysis, etc.).

I have 20 years of experience teaching mathematics, from A-level students to postgraduates at UK's top universities (Cambridge, Oxford, Warwick,...). I have taught both in a private capacity as well as in a university setting (tutorials, Oxbridge style supervisions, drop-in sessions, workshops).
