A student's personal goals are always at the centre of their development and I like to approach tutoring on an individual basis, as, particularly with music, every student learns in a way unique to them. The first lesson is generally spent getting to know students (and vice versa), understanding the approaches that work best for them and building a much needed rapport. I am currently Head of Science at a large co-educational boarding school near Coventry. My subject specialism is Biology and I have taught A level, GCSE, Pre-U and IB Biology (HL and SL) full time for over thirty years in four leading independent schools. in the UK I have been Head of Biology departments in two of these schools, designing curricula and evaluating student outcomes.

Then I adopt a patient approach to building each tutee's confidence so that they feel more able to get the most from their regular classes and make the fastest progress. I like to focus on improving each student's knowledge and use of technical vocabulary so that they are able to express their ideas as clearly and precisely on paper as possible.

If a tutee is in the first year of a two year course, I focus on building their foundational knowledge and understanding. If we are in the year of their final exams, the focus will shift onto more specific exam preparation using past papers and learning from feedback.
