Teaching Experience:
My knowledge of exam boards such as Edexcel, AQA and OCR enable me to alter teaching styles in a way that helps both the student understand but also to check off the various points the examiner is looking for. Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching isn't to memorise the so-called 'steps' in maths. It is to understand the deeper knowledge as to why you take each step to solve the problem. This really simplifies everything and allows the once impossible task, to become tangible and much easier to solve. A great academic record does not necessarily mean a great tutor, however I think that I have the right approach whereby I learn first how the student works best, then implement learning techniques which will drive the best results.

I also strongly encourage an inquisitive and questioning behaviour, where the student is aware that not everything I say should be taken for granted. The key skill universities are looking for is an inquisitive nature, so I do not lecture to the student, I let them give feedback and treat them as an equal, and in most examples let the student lead the session. This way they develop an ability to think for themselves.

My first session is normally spent working out the best tutoring technique, how motivated the student is and what sort of ability they are. For example, in some cases I like to set small amounts of homework which actually help develop a deep understanding of the question, rather than bundles of questions that encourage method-learning repetition.

From here, each session can build on the previous and will depend a lot on the current progress of the student, upcoming examinations, strengths and weaknesses and how confident they are. In general though, I like to go through the content as fast or as slow as necessary, and then do some past paper or textbook questions with the student. I have been a teacher and mentor for 23 years, I have learnt how to stay calm when stakes are high by experience working with vulnerable collectives and in difficult situations, and trained in Verbal Self Defense and in Verbal Aikido (TM), becoming an Advanced Practitioner.

Now I am sharing many years of experience in learning and teaching how to have better conversations and make your voice be heard, so you can achieve better communication in less time!

I am native Spanish and can teach conversational, advanced and everyday holiday Spanish online.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught in non formal education since 1997 a variety of disciplines starting with music. I have written in books and articles about education in my native country (Un Angulo Me Basta, Editorial Tres Hermanas) and I am a keen teacher and trainer in verbal self defense. I am an enthusiastic and very experienced Maths teacher living and working in Portsmouth. Over the years I have developed a wide range of strategies to engage learners of all ability levels as they prepare for their GCSE and A-level qualifications. I have had many successful classes in over 30 years of teaching and am able to bring this wealth of experience to the one-to-one sessions that I offer through UK Tutors.

Teaching Experience:
I spent the first 18 years of my career teaching in a Sixth Form College in South East Hampshire. I then moved to become Head of Maths at Caxton College which is the top British School in Valencia. Since returning to the UK 11 years ago I have taught at Independent Schools in Portsmouth. I am very experienced in delivering GCSE and A-level specifications and teach both Statistics and Mechanics.

Tutoring Approach:
I enjoy the challenge of breaking mathematical problems down to their basics so that learners of all abilities can access the content on GCSE and A-level specifications. In my experience, I have seen how pupils can get worked up about maths and this can create a mental block to the subject. I will never assume that a pupils knows a particular fact and will patiently work back to some foundational understanding before building concepts back up.
I have amassed a variety of resources over the years and use these to explain the concepts that underly the subject at GCSE and A-level. I also have a plentiful supply of past paper resources which I work through with pupils in order for them to feel confident with the questions that they will face in exams.
