Personal Description:

Hello! I work in Research & Innovation at the University of Surrey where I help academics (Lecturers and PhD students) make a positive difference with their research, such as build start-up businesses. Previously, I was a Research Fellow designing spacecraft structures having finished my PhD Mechanical Engineering. I have written numerous technical papers and presented them at conferences across the world: San Diego (US) x2, Toulouse (France), Kyoto (Japan) and Melbourne (Australia) - I love travelling!

I am 30 years old, originally from Stoke-on-Trent and have been DBS checked (since 12th January 2014) for my previous STEM Ambassador role whilst studying in London.

I am also Managing Director & Co-Founder of an insect-based nutrition startup.

I have a [Merit] MSc Space Science & Engineering, University College London and [1st Class] BSc Astrophysics, Aberystwyth University, Wales.

I love and strongly believe in the STEM subjects because they're interesting, incredibly fulfilling and enable us as individuals to understand and contribute to all parts of society.

I enjoy energetic and competitive sports such as badminton and rock climbing, was Men's 2nd Team Badminton Captain and Vice President, play pool/snooker, read, draw and knit.

Teaching Experience:

I have tutored A-Level and IGCSE Physics, GCSE and KS2-3 Mathematics to students aged 10-17 through UKtutors over the past 8 years across London and Surrey. Most recently, I successfully improved a Physics student's D grade to the targeted B over the course of 3-4 months (1hr/wk)

I have tutored undergraduate Mathematics and Engineering classes in University of Surrey e.g. numerical methods and advanced materials stress analysis

I have coached badminton in University of Surrey's Club and previously to secondary school pupils as part of the 5x60 Dragon Sports Programme in Wales during my undergraduate studies

Tutoring Approach:

Over the first lessons we identify the current situation - what we're happy with, what we're not so happy with - look at the course syllabus, as this varies across regions and examination boards, and we focus on what we can improve to yield the most valuable outcome. Everyone learns differently and I tailor my tutoring accordingly by providing the most enjoyable and effective experience possible. I enjoy and prefer tutoring informally and am always open and happy for feedback and suggestions
