Personal Description:
I'm in my early sixties, married with four children and three Grandchildren aged 5-9 yrs. I have 40 years' experience of teaching all ages from pre-school (I used to child mind) to A level and FE students. I have taught children aged 4-14yrs in an Independent Christian School and I have helped many older students with dyslexia, ADHD and ASD to resit their English GCSE successfully. I enjoy working with adults too especially using my language teaching skills (I am CELTA qualified). I help people who have particular difficulties and those who just lack confidence, to see their very real strengths and to build on them. I can show them techniques for learning and improving their writing style, comprehension skills and spoken English in a way that suits them as individuals. I always make sure that whether or not you want to pass exams, the English you use is fit for whatever need you have - so if you just need help in speaking to Doctors and Nurses in hospital, I can help with that or if you want to start at Uni I can meet your study needs too at whatever level. I am extremely passionate about education and have a purposeful approach which takes account of students' individual learning styles. My comprehensive experience in leading Employability , Drama and Speech workshops has been most fulfilling but I also love teaching English as an additional language and singing with crafts etc. for people with learning differences. I have been trained in this area and I have always taken opportunities to improve my teaching skills. I like to give personal attention to my tutees and to tailor the lessons to their needs but am happy to teach online up to 3 people together to reduce costs if that helps. We work on Language skills such as pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar in ESOL lessons with plenty of practice for tests if needed and when studying literature at a higher level, I encourage my tutees to relate what they are reading to current issues and events in the world so that it is relevant and interesting for them. All students are different, so I strive to find what interests the student and work from there. An engaged student is a keen student.

It is important that the principles are understand because all else flows from this. I use examples from the students' course work and life situations to focus on what is important to the student, to put things in a language that they can understand. This can be through explanations, sketches, diagrams etc. When this happens and the light goes on, there is great satisfaction that the student is taking an interest in the subject.

I have been a fully qualified teacher for over 6 years and I absolutely love what I do! I have particular interest in working with children on a 1-1 basis as I love to personalise their learning and help them to see things in a different way then they may have been taught and not quite understand before.

I am an artist-teacher whose passion lies within nature and its use as a subject within art education. Exploring themes of organic matter, leaning towards natural history and science, I have a keen interest in the philosophy of Wabi-sabi and creating symmetrical imagery using objects that may be deemed imperfect, worthless or unattractive.

I studied Illustration at University and specialise in bookmaking, screen printing onto textiles and observational drawing.

My knowledge and experience enable me to use a blend of specialist teaching strategies which help students to understand and work with, rather than against, their dyslexia.

My tuition also helps students develop strategies to learn effectively and successfully online.

I also regularly carry out full dyslexia screenings. This is a comprehensive test which is followed by a detailed feedback report.

During my 21 work experience years as a Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages ( TESOL /Teaching Arabic Foreign Learners (TAFL) instructor , I established 10 years of experience in the UK in supporting various EAL students ( including Special Educational Needs) starting from Early Years to Further Education, successfully helping them to settle in their respective educational setting and overcoming language, culture and behaviour barriers to become more engaged in the school life. Throughout my working experience, I had been successfully working closely to plan, monitor, supervise, and report development of various students. I built an excellent repertoire with all families and service providers and managed to provide a quality service to the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Community in Wirral. I built on my previous experience when I got appointed as an Arabic/English Language Interpreter at a Language Service Provider, where I provided language interpretation in different social, educational, medical contexts, supporting Syrian families in different situations to bridge the cultural, lingual gaps to facilitate settlement and cohesion. I provided a supportive relation with most parents by providing guidance and information on the UK educational system, as part of my interpretation role is to shed light on cultural gaps and differences.

I provide a Traded Service to support schools in Wirral to meet the needs of pupils with English as an additional language (EAL) and ethnic minority pupils. My role is to facilitate good home/school communication for refugee and asylum- seeking families with aim of ensuring that each pupil achieves their full potential. I support pupils' settling into school and development of English sometimes via translations of instructions and curriculum language. I also provide support for families prior to and during admission of children with EAL to school/setting. Encourage and promote home-school/setting-community links for example: supporting schools in developing initiatives to meet the needs of EAL parents by providing information about ESOL classes and weekend community language classes. On the other hand, I provide information for staff regarding pupil's first language, cultural and religious issues, meanwhile, I support staff with any initial or ongoing pupil assessment and prepare dual language labels and materials for schools/setting.

Arabic Language Assessment Specialist, Cambridge International Assessments , Cambridge University, UK.
Successfully participated as an Assistant Moderator (Postal), to moderate the work from approximately 20 centres with candidates taking the examination in 0544/03 Foreign Language Arabic Speaking (c/w) for the June 2018 & 2019 sessions. In addition, I have also worked as an Assistant Examiner to mark the work of approximately 400 candidates taking the examination in 0508/01 First Language Arabic Reading (scoris) for the June 2018&2019 sessions, where the marking was done via RM processor. Furthermore, due to my excellence in the pre mentioned 4 modules, I was asked to perform further services with Cambridge assessments, where I was required to proofread test material for 3180/01 & 3180/02 OL Arabic June 2019. Throughout my work with Cambridge, a keen eye on detail and meeting deadlines were a key aspect of my work which extended my contracts further in 2019, when I was asked to be the Setter for the 9680/21 test material for AL Arabic November 2021.
