I am a mature lady (60yo) with a 1st Class Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree (B.Sc) and a Postgraduate Management qualification from Cambridge University. My own 'A' Levels were Biology, Maths and Physics with a particular focus on electronics. At University I studied Maths at degree level.

After working as an Engineer I changed career in my late 20s and moved into the world of Therapy and Healing. I trained in hypnotherapy and craniosacral therapy as well as Human Design. I have worked with young people utilising various modalities to help them gain confidence and choose careers/subjects that bring out the best in them. I studied for a time in a Rudolph Steiner environment so I appreciate the value of alternative approaches and Artistic therapies to educating young people. I was also a member of the Steiner Academy Appeals panel for some time in Hereford.

From 2009 to 2012 I worked in an Admin capacity for OFSTED travelling around Schools and Colleges up and down the SW of England. My particular area of responsibility was the safeguarding and protection of children.

In 2011 I attended an Introduction to Autism training with the HANDLE organisation as I increasingly meet young people struggling on the Autism spectrum so this topic is of particular interest to me. My approach is open and relatively informal. I feel that tutoring works best when a relationship is established between myself and the student - they should feel free to ask questions, raise issues, and discuss any aspect of the work that interests them. It's very different to being taught in the classroom: in addition to individual attention, it also offers the opportunity to read and study texts not on the curriculum which can augment and strengthen the school syllabus. English is essentially a skills based subject. Although there is a lot of content to learn at both GCSE and A level, students benefit from being able to access and flexibly use the techniques needed to study and criticize. Hi my name is Tuba and I can confidently say that teaching SEN and working with students who have additional needs is my passion!

I am originally from Turkey and I came to England to pursue my dream as an SEN specialist. I studied MA Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education at Manchester Metropolitan University.

I worked with more than 150 students who have ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, learning disabilities, down syndrome, multiple and profound learning disabilities, visual and hearing impairments. I worked with students from age 2 to 30. In the mean time, I topped up my knowledge studying 2 years foundation degree in Child Development to have more of a professional perspective on early years/Foundation stage.

In 2018, I moved to England to start my MA studies in Special Needs and carried on teaching 1-1 ever since I graduated in 2020.

I worked with several children/teenagers/young adults across Manchester within different settings. I got trained in Applied Behavioural Analysis/ABA and tutored in this area offering behavioural support alongside the academic support I have been offering.

I got regular students in Manchester , offering home schooling, pastoral and behavioural support on a regular basis. I have also offered short term interventions , behavioural/emotional support to students who have different needs during this period.

I have been a Manager and English Lecturer in Adult Education for over 20 years, and taught English Language, Literature and Drama in secondary schools before that. I have full Qualified Teacher Status, certified by the Department for Education (UK).

Qualifications: BA (Hons) English Literature from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne; Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (Teaching Qualification) from the University of Durham.

I am also a freelance writer and have had comedy material produced on BBC Television & Radio.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a teacher for over 30 years, helping thousands of learners throughout my career, in both secondary schools and in the Coventry Adult Education Service. Most recently, I have been providing Private Tuition online and in clients' homes.

I am very experienced in teaching English Language & English Literature (Key Stage 3 & GCSE); Basic Literacy Skills & Dyslexia support for Adult Learners (including Functional Skills); Study Skills for Students - for example: planning; essay structure; proofreading; advice & guidance; and Creative Writing for Adults and Older Children - including structured lessons designed to encourage and inspire, as well as full creative feedback & proofreading.

Tutoring Approach:
My one-to-one online or in-person sessions are for learners aged 14 to mature adults. Lesson length can vary to suit - from 35 minutes to 2 hours.
