Personal Description:
Hello,

I am Alfiya. I am a professional, qualified and experienced tutor in individual and group Russian teaching. I have been in Edinburgh for almost 11 years and have been a tutor in Russian, freelance interpreter and translator for all this time. During my tutoring career I have assisted almost 250 learners with teaching Russian. I like communicating and meeting new people. I'm friendly, easy-going, open, quick-minded. In my free time I like reading, learning about different cultures, going in for sport, socialising.

Teaching Experience:
I graduated from Irkutsk State Linguistic University in Russia in 1996. Had been teaching English for Russian students and Russian for foreign students at Kazan State University for 15 years (Russia). My specialities are: Russian from Elementary to Advanced.

In 2000 I finished the course in 'Improvement of Professional Skills on Teaching Methodology of Foreign Languages' at Kazan State University in Russia. In 2005 I attended the Conversational Spanish course in Spanish Centre of Education and Culture at Kazan State University. Back to Russia I worked as a senoir lecturer in English and Russian at Kazan State University. I am the author of four scientific publications in the field of linguistic relations in Russian, English and Tatar.

While living in the UK I have worked as a freelance tutor and translator for Scottish&Newcastle, Scottish Parliament, NHS and Rudolf Steiner School. I am really proud of the fact that among my students are people of different ages, knowledge of Russian and purposes of learning it and who are professionals in different fields for example in language and science teaching, sales and marketing, medical research, social work, to name just a few.

I have completed successfully the HNC and HND Tourism course at Edinburgh college.

Tutoring Approach:
Always try to make students interested in the subject I teach. Create a ftiendly and an encouraging learning environment. Not afraid to praise them even if they do not get immediate good results. Tend to get feedback from them. Plan carefully each lesson. Use the Internet and PC in preparing for lessons. Try to make lessons interesting, various by combining different aspects of learning a language: Grammar, Vocabulary, Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading. Each course that you will attend is tailored to your needs and depends on your level of knowing Russian and your purpose of learning. I teach Russian through the Skype system as well. Each month organise Russian Converstaion Club for my students to help them learn some more about Russia apart from lessons. We discuss various topics in Russian (the topic of each session is given in advance), do different activities based on the theme of the session. The aim of Russian Conversation Club is to improve Russian conversational skills of my students and help them learn more about Russian culture and history.

My recent students' testimonials say:

I've been learning Russian for over two years now and I've tried out a number of different Russian teachers from different companies. I can say that, without a doubt, Ignaty Dyakov has been by far the most outstanding teacher. His lessons are professional and extremely fun at the same time thanks to his friendly nature and good sense of humour. Most importantly - for me at least - he will immediately hone in on any problems you have and help you solve them (often without you even realising!). Ignaty is knowledgeable and very well informed about Russian culture; the Russian I have learned with Ignaty has always been accompanied by interesting cultural insights. Finally, I am always surprised at how impeccably punctual Ignaty is given the horrors of the London transport system!
- Richard P.

Ignaty is an excellent tutor of Russian language with very professional approach. He makes every lesson very interesting, bringing his sense of humour and outlook on the topics discussed in conversations. On a personal level I have found Ignaty is very diligent, reliable, willing to help and assist with founding out any information related to learning Russian language or exploring the Russian culture, art or ways of living. Ignaty has been an absolute pleasure to deal with right from my initial email to discuss my lessons till current date and I have no hesitation in recommending him to any individual or company who is interested in learning Russian language.
- Martina

I have been having private Russian Tuition from Ignaty for a period of 4 months during which I received outstanding education from a highly qualified, intelligent and pleasant individual. The lessons were result focussed, fun and interesting. Besides learning the language itself, I also learned a lot about the actual Russian culture. I can highly recommend these language courses to anyone who requires to be conversational in the Russian language in a short period of time.
-Peter

Taking this course with Ignaty has provided me with excellent grounding in the language and has been a highlight of the last couple of months. He has the patience of a saint (!) and is exceptionally knowledgeable. It's incredibly helpful that Ignaty has such extensive multi-lingual capabilities. His enthusiasm and knowledge has inspired me to explore the Russian culture further to the extent that my next holiday is being spent in St Petersburg. Thanks Ignaty!

Personal Description:
Hello, my name is George and I am a PhD student settled in Durham during term-time. I am passionate about teaching children and grown-ups of all ages in a manner that is both educational and enjoyable for the students by incorporating their hobbies and interests in their education. I have been a private tutor for a year, but I have always been eager to help people whenever in need. I have been tutoring mainly in English grammar and foreign languages such as German and Russian, but I am also interested in teaching subjects such as history, sociology, critical theory, and humanities in general. I have taken education related modules during my BA, and I also possess a Developing Your Potential certificate for education after completing a series of online courses.
In case you are interested, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time. I am more than happy to teach online, especially in the given circumstances, but if this were not the case, I would be happy to drive up to 30 miles from Durham during term-time. I am available any time of the day, including weekends, unless specified otherwise.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a personal tutor for English grammar, German, and Russian for two years now. I have been teaching my students regularly once a week, and I have received positive feedback for my teaching methods, as well as my approach when helping to improve my students' language levels.
I possess a "Developing Your Potential" certificate, which I acquired after attending online courses that related to teaching. The courses included lessons on the British curriculum, as well as advice and skills on how to approach with children with disabilities such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, and autism. These courses have helped be gain an understanding and insight in the ways I should approach students with special needs, and I see it as a very important skill as a person who supports the right for equal opportunities in education.
I also taught in classroom environments while taking modules in education during my Eramus+ exchange studies in Sweden. This has helped me gain experience working with pupils in primary schools, which also helped me familiarise myself working with more than one student as well.

Tutoring Approach:
I usually teach a student once per week, but if it is necessary, I am willing to top it up by teaching the same student twice a week even. I also offer the first lesson at half price as a an introductory lesson.
My lessons usually last an hour, but I am also happy to top it up to two hours, with a 5-10 minute break, upon request.
Any cancellations or changing of schedules should be noted within 24 hours at least.
I am also more than happy to teach more than one student at the same time within a "classroom style setting" online, given that the students are doing the same subject at a more or less equal level.
I am available every day, including weekends, and I am flexible with time as well.
At the end of every lesson, I will always give homework to students and expect them to do it until our next lesson. I am however tolerant in unforeseen circumstances, or if any other personal issue arises.
At the beginning of every lesson and after checking the homework, I shall ask short questions related to previous lessons. Thus, I expect students to learn and take notes from every I teach on their own initiative, although I will remind this every now and then.
As a tutor, I am also aware that time is very valuable for every lesson. This is why I ensure that no lesson will be wasted by teaching topics already known by the student.
Finally, I also like to make my lessons fun and entertaining, as I have always found this the best way to learn. This is why I will offer the students the freedom to choose which topics to discuss that would fit with their interests or hobbies, as well as offering them tasks that would make learning more entertaining as well as educational.

In Tajikistan, I used to do babysitting part time which involved having study sessions with the kids after dinner. This involved tutoring and aiding them with their day-to-day homework in various subjects such as: Russian, Maths, History and Art.

Tutoring Approach:
I'm confident in taking lessons online as long as it's through video. My teaching approach is very interactive and only through facial expressions, can I truly see if my tutees are understanding the topics / subjects I'm covering.
My prior experience in babysitting and also having three children has taught me not only patience, but compassion and understanding. I maintain a positive and encouraging attitude at all times, so that my tutees also feel confident and are able to ask me questions without feeling intimidated. I'm also very organised and will come prepared for each lesson to ensure I make the most of the time I have with my tutee.

Personal Description:
Здрaвствуйте! Would you like to read, speak and understand Russian for any purpose: to pass your GCSE and A level exams, for travel, business or pleasure? I would be able to help. All my lessons are tailored to meet any learning needs and make the learning journey enjoyable.

Teaching Experience:
I am a native speaker of Russian and a Head of a very successful Russian department in a grammar school in London. I teach pupils from year 7 to 13.
I have been teaching languages in the UK for the past 25 years and pride myself in helping my students achieve their dream of studying Russian at Oxbridge and other Russel group universities. Many of my pupils fall in love with the language and carry that love throughout their lives. I am a teacher-examiner for GCSE and A level Edexcel Pearson examboard.

Tutoring Approach:
There is a great lack of teaching and learning resources in Russian, that is why I create them myself and base them on the needs of my students.
