My first session with a tutee and their parents is to establish their needs and goals. Together we draw up a plan of the work which we will pursue. This plan will be reviewed regularly and a progress report compiled.

One of my main aims in tutoring is to stimulate an interest in learning, by making the topic as relevant in contemporary terms as possible. In the longer term, I concentrate on problem areas which may have been skated over in class. I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm about to publish my second memoir and published a book called Writing Memoir. This is where my Early Years background really helps as I can identify different learning styles and adapt the way I teach to suit each child. This is very much a part of the Early Years Curriculum so I am used to being reflective and using different strategies to help children learn to the best of their ability. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to see how children grow and learn and most of all gain in confidence so they are able to learn more effectively in all their subjects.
Throughout the session I will assess the child's progress and use this information to plan for the next session. As the spiral curriculum dictates I will also revisit past learning to ensure the child has a firm grasp of the concepts that have been taught previously. This is very important because often or not learning is lost in school because schools do not have time to go over lessons which results in children developing gaps in their learning.

I'm Rebecca, 31 years old and living in the Liverpool area. Originally I am from Dublin but took the plunge and moved to the UK nearly 8 years ago! I have a BA Honours Level 8 in Humanities specialising in English, Theology and Philosophy. I'm an enthusiastic teacher and still a keen learner. I love to impart knowledge and promote a love of learning among my students whilst having some fun along the way!

Teaching Experience:
I have been a qualified teacher for 7 years now teaching Religious Studies, Philosophy and Ethics across all year groups including A-Level. Christianity, Islam and Judaism would be my specialist religions at GCSE level. I have taught AQA and Eduqas exam boards at both GCSE and A-Level and I have tutored for OCR A-Level. Pupils who I have tutored have gained up to two grades above their target. I am the current subject lead in my department, achieving above national average with my students. I have been also a facilitator for Best Practice, this means I have facilitated the CPD training for Early Career Teachers in their first year of teaching.
