I'm an enthusiastic, keen and good-humoured tutor, who teaches with commitment, dedication, passion and style!

I have been teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level students now for more than 20 years - and I achieve great results.

I currently tutor students in English Language, English Literature and Maths - in the evenings and occasionally at weekends.

I am familiar with all of the English prose and play texts, as well as Poetry Anthologies and tutor students for both GCSE and IGCSE English Language and Literature.

I have a passion for poetry, I love Shakespeare, and, in my spare time, publish short stories. Creative Writing is my first love.

A native Scot, I attained my English degree (BA Honours) from Stirling University in central Scotland.

In addition to my English degree, I have a second degree in Education (1st class Honours) from Stirling University, which allows me to teach GCSE Mathematics, Sociology, Psychology and Politics.

My hobbies include swimming (I swim a mile almost every day!), writing short stories and poems and motorbiking.

I was one of the 'pilot tutors' on Warwickshire County Council's Tutoring Programme for Children in Care, tutoring teenagers across Warwickshire in literacy.

Tutoring Approach:
My style is engaging and enthusiastic. I have a passion for creative writing.

I tutor in the evenings and selected weekends, and set weekly written tasks to monitor students' progress.

A normal GCSE lesson lasts one hour, but I can offer 90-minute or two-hour sessions for AS/A level students.

I am currently a lecturer on the BSc Psychology and Language science degree at University College London and a psychology examiner for AQA. Prior to this, I was Head of Psychology at a secondary school where I taught the AQA A-level psychology specification. I also introduced and taught Sociology A-level. I have coordinated modules in developmental psychology and lectured undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have also taught A level psychology for over 10-years and sociology for 2-years. My approach is very much student-centred and I adapt my teaching style to the students in front of me. I was Head of Psychology at a local college for 12 years , and I have examining experience. I now also lecture in BSc and MSc Psychology while undertaking my PhD which is looking at interventions to reduce stress in students.

I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. By virtue of having studied several subjects at a high level, I empathise with the feeling of finding something difficult, and have the patience and technique to get past this. I am not a single-subject specialist who might find it difficult to understand why others struggle in their area of expertise.

My whole career has been geared towards some form of teaching. Hi, I'm Pedro. I was born in Portugal but have lived in England since I was 9. I'm currently studying BSc in Psychology at Bournemouth University and I really enjoy my degree. I am particularly interested in clinical psychology and as a result since April 2022 I've been volunteering at 'Hammersley Homes', a charity which focuses on helping adults with mental illness. A few hours a week I visit someone who finds himself adjusting back into society, he has autism and bipolar. We speak, go on walks, cycle or listen to music together. I have learnt a lot about how difficult certain people find life. This experience has really helped me to be more empathetic, caring and positive.
I also really enjoy surfing, jogging and cooking.

I took up a role as 'PAL' leader at my university where I was given a classroom of 20 first year psychology students. Although the role involved me 'facilitating' instead of 'teaching'. I spoke to my 'students' every week on what content they were struggling with, since I had done the same content the year prior, I compiled and summarised content which I had been taught and created power point slides to give them direction and a better understanding on the content. I also emphasised taking care of mental health and getting involved with the community.

I was nervous at first, worried about speaking too fast or having awkward silences but after a few sessions I found myself loving it. I received really good feedback from students and supervisor who suggested I should be a teacher because I made the sessions really engaging.
