I am an aerospace engineer by qualification with a Bachelor's and Masters degree from the University of Leeds in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering. I joined the automotive industry in 2015 and have since worked in engineering. Being an engineer and coming from a family of engineers, Maths is naturally my favourite subject and my strength. I graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2003 and a year later completed my post graduate certificate in Education at the same university. I have taught in 3 secondary schools in Buckinghamshire and Derbyshire.

I currently teach all GCSE sciences as well as Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. I am a designated Advanced Skills Teacher; recognition of my outstanding classroom practice and the excellent results that this generates for the young people I teach. I work for the Cambridge International Exam Board, being an experienced marker of A Level chemistry. In 2024 the A-level classes I taught achieved on average a whole grade higher than other students studying AQA chemistry nationally, which put my results firmly in the outstanding category as measured by ALPS.

In person I am able to offer in-person tuition in and around the Derby, Ashbourne and Uttoxeter areas. I also offer remote learning via MS Teams.

However, this shouldn't be taken as a cause for despair - far from it! I really love Maths and Physics and so I naturally have spent lots of time trying to understand the entire A level syllabus, to the point where I'm now confident I could teach it and anything below that to absolutely anybody, and would love to be able to help those who want to improve their grades. I have had the most wonderful teachers during my time at school and so I am now confident that I can transmit any concepts and ideas lucidly to any of my tutees.

Teaching Experience:
I've tutored previously in St Mary's Ukrainian School for a period of 6 months, where I tutored GCSE Maths and brought up three peoples' grades from a 7 to a 9, a 6 to an 8 and a 6 to a 9 respectively. Although I had to stop the tutoring due to other commitments the students that I tutored said that they would absolutely have continued if I had had the availability, and it heped me understand more where people struggle and how to best help them with their studies.

Tutoring Approach:
Of course I think the question volume is important but beneath all of that I think that you need to have a comprehensive understanding of the subject in order to build confidence for the actual exam so I might use various questions as examples (which I'm very well versed in having just finished A levels) but if it's clear that there's a fundamental gap in understanding I'll address that first before teaching them how to do the questions.

I am a calm, patient and approchable individual with a good sense of humour. I enjoy interacting with people, and am known for my loud laugh and big smile.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching for 6 years in a highly diverse Secondary school in Ealing. I teach Triple and Combined Biology GCSE (exam board Edexcel, but can also teach AQA) and A level Biology (exam board Edexcel A), and Physics and Chemistry Combined Science GCSE. I have taught both Foundation and Higher level GCSE and have experience teaching SEN students.

Tutoring Approach:
I am an energetic person who loves to be creative while teaching. I would approach teaching in different ways so I can ascertain the best approach for the tutee. We will focus on content, exam questions using examiner reports and past papers, and revision techniques. I like to keep a positive vibe during sessions, so that the person feels good about themselves and what they are learning.
