I was awarded a First Class Honours degree from University College London in 1997 and went on to study a PhD in Quantum Mechanics. On successful completion of my PhD in 2001 I started work at Thales Research and Technology (TRT) where I led projects on Adaptive Learning Systems and Information Management. I initiated the first programme to span the three TRT laboratories in France, Netherlands and UK in the area of Cognitive Systems research. I then went on to set up and lead a large collaborative team between TRT and University of Surrey to study remote collaboration technologies. I joined General Dynamics United Kingdom Limited in 2005, primarily to ensure exploitation of DIF DTC technologies into the UK Ministry of Defence Equipment Programme. I received my Chartered Physicist status in 2004 and am now a director.

Teaching Experience:
Several students have improved by more than 4 grades after just six months of tuition with me, and commonly students improve by at least one or two grades. Many of my students who previously had lost their passion for Maths and Physics, go on to take these subjects to a further level. Apart from the usual syllabuses I am experienced at teaching students the Maths section of the SATs and ACTs in order to get scholarships to American Universities.

Personal Description:
I hold a first class degree from the University of Oxford in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. I am currently doing a Master's in Economic Research at Cambridge University and want to be a researcher in economics. Past students in Politics, Economics and Maths A-Level have achieved A/A* in public examinations I taught them for. I have four years tutoring experience. I can help students excel in 7+,11+,13+ and University entrance exams. I can help students achieve top grades in maths, science and English GCSE. I also can help students excel in economics, maths and politics A-Level, as I was a top graduate (in the top 8%) form the University of Oxford in those subjects. I achieved A*AAA at A-Level in Further Maths, History and Politics. I took five AS levels and averaged 94% in them. I scored 10A*s plus an A in additional maths at GCSE at RGS Guildford. I greatly enjoy mentoring and inspiring students to excel in their education. I derived an enormous amount of joy and excitement from my education. It is a wonderful thing to inspire my students to succeed and thrive in their studies. My ambition is to return to the University of Oxford to do a masters and doctorate in economics.

Teaching Experience:
I have four years experience as a private tutor, teaching: GCSE maths, oxbridge applications (interviews, personal statements, general preparation and guidance and the PPE entrance exam), GCSE science (chemistry, biology and physics), english GCSE, politics A-Level, economics A-Level and 11+ and 13+ entrance exams for private schools. I have helped students win places at RGS Guildford, Churcher's College, KCS Wimbledon, Wellington College and places at Oxford University (A student came in the top 1% of Oxford University PPE applicants after private lessons, but was on the 30th percentile in practice exams beforehand). I tutored maths for the 11+ entrance exam and they achieved a commendation for their performance in the exam. I have taught students aged 7-13 at the Kumon maths centre in Haslemere. I have structured revision and school work for students who dropped out of school for their GCSEs, providing home schooling. I inspired many students in maths by accelerating them quickly through the GCSE course.

Tutoring Approach:
I have a surface pro with a pen for online lessons. In economics and maths, I use an online whiteboard which students have permanent access to, to write notes and solutions to exam questions. My approach is to accelerate students as fast as possible through their given course using exam material to deepen and develop their knowledge. I find I can accelerate students rapidly in maths (at GCSE and A-level), whilst they greatly enjoy the subject and the sessions. Students quickly improve at school too, which gives them extra confidence in their talents and capabilities. I set students past papers questions and we resolve any difficulties they had in the session. Iterating through past paper questions in this manner leads to exceptional results: a student of mine came in the top 1% in the entrance exam against Oxford University applicants and gained a place. Similarly, students excel at 11+, 13+, GCSE and A-Level in this manner. Practicing exam material and constantly pushing myself is how I achieved first class hons at the University of Oxford (as well as how I exceled at school), coming top in Game Theory in the exam, so I believe in this approach.

Personal Description:
I am a GTC (General Teaching Council for Scotland) registered Maths teacher with a first class hons BSc and PhD in Chemistry from Edinburgh University and a background in engineering and industry.

While I am highly academically qualified, I understand how it feels to struggle with study and the benefit of getting extra support. I found parts of maths and language difficult at school and was lucky to have a couple of very understanding teachers who helped correct the damage to confidence and understanding left by some rather less sympathetic practitioners.

I have many interests from sports and the environment to languages and the arts and believe in lifelong learning to help gain new skills remain adaptable and responsive to change. I have distinctions from the OU in maths and psychology courses and continue to access various online learning opportunities. This enables me to take a broad outlook and to encourage students to think widely and deeply about opportunities and issues in the world.

I really enjoy tutoring students and helping them to achieve in their studies and gain a sense of satisfaction in their work.

Teaching Experience:
I have over 20 years of teaching experience. I am very comfortable using online tools for tuition and assisting students to use them in collaboration with me so that remote sessions are productive, personal and interactive.

What I value in teaching:

Those "Aha moments" that my student's experience when they make the connections that help it all make sense... sadly so often missed out in some of the narrowly focused school based classroom environments...

The students who go from bottom of the class and being advised they should aim for N4 not N5, to achieving A grades and their teachers recommending them for higher...

The students who were failing and dispirited who progress to pass with very secure B grades, their confidence and positivity restored.

A positive relationship between tutor and tutee is essential for effective learning, so building a respectful and trusting dynamic is the basis of my work. I always seek to focus on improving and deepening understanding with an approach that reduces anxiety and builds confidence and motivation.

My teaching style is collaborative and supportive. I am friendly and approachable with a real concern for each student's experiences, passions and difficulties and how I might best help them. I take a flexible approach to build positive relationships with students of varying interests and personalities.

Building a student's understanding of the fundamentals of the subject is key as this leads to deep and effective long term learning and will build confidence in the student and also their cognitive abilities to perform at higher levels.

I also work hard to help students improve their study techniques and to become more independent learners and more reflective and critical thinkers. I have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering (PhD), with years of first hand experience in satisfactorily engaging and supporting students as I attempt to demystify and tear down barriers (or challenges) in different subjects areas. I am passionate and enthusiastic at teaching Mathematics, Physics, Engineering related modules and Computer related modules including programming as I create an empowering environment for students while demonstrating empathy, pastoral care and patience at all times. I have gained an extensive knowledge base to enable me deliver an outstanding knowledge transfer process to stimulate curiosity, interaction and connection with students in their respective subjects of interest. I have successfully tutored students at GCSE , A levels and BEng programs. Again, I have lectured at College and University level on Science and Engineering related subjects while promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity at all times. In addition, I have excellent communication skills and ensure I offer bespoke teaching and learning that is tailored to the student's needs or requirements. Furthermore, I am fascinated at the opportunity to engage in problem solving, critical and analytical thinking. Hello, My name is Lincoln, I graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science. I am presently a master's student at Newcastle University, pursuing a master's in Applied Mathematics. I worked as a teacher assistant during my school days in Math classes and supported students who had difficulties with the subject. I think Mathematics is accessible to all; we only need to discover the best methods of presenting the concepts as educators. I assist my students in boosting their confidence when tackling new questions and encourage them to utilize their creativity alongside their knowledge when confronting a challenging problem.
