I have had a passion for Physics from a young age, deciding then I wanted to study to degree level. Once completing my masters degree I worked in industry for 3 years doing blue sky research for BAE SYSTEMS. I decided that, whilst the intellectual rewards were great, I wanted to work more closely with people which prompted my move into teaching.

I am a currently practicing teacher with 20 years experience at a high achieving independent school. I have experience teaching a range of abilities: from straight A students to students struggling on the D/E borderline.

Tutoring Approach:
I believe students progress best when they are confident to give problem solving a go. As a tutor I will go through the theory with tutees but my prime focus will always be how we apply that theory in practice. I expect tutees to be willing to make mistakes whilst working on problems with me so I can see where the flaws in their understanding are and help them correct them. I will also expect tutees to submit work for me to mark outside of our sessions so I can assess their progress.

I am a UK qualified teacher with 20 years teaching experience. I graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2003 and a year later completed my post graduate certificate in Education at the same university. I currently teach all GCSE sciences as well as Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. I am a designated Advanced Skills Teacher; recognition of my outstanding classroom practice and the excellent results that this generates for the young people I teach. I work for the Cambridge International Exam Board, being an experienced marker of A Level chemistry. Problem-solving methods are discussed and explained, not only as to how a problem is solved, but also why it's solved that way: this helps the student understand the maths and science behind the problem better, as well as develop their critical and analytical abilities that will help them tackle any other problem in maths and science as well as in life in general.

I followed my passion for understanding the world around me into science to become a cosmologist. Talking about scientific concepts and their connections, and passing on the torch, is just the best.

Through my master's degree at Perimeter Institute I have acquired a strong background in theoretical and mathematical physics. In my PhD at UCL I focused on statistical methods for astronomical data analysis of big cosmology surveys. I worked as a post-doctoral research assistant for 2.5 years on projects across weak gravitational lensing and supernova cosmology, with a stronger focus on machine learning methods. I also worked as a data scientist for the private sector for a few months.
