Tutoring Approach:
Largely, this will depend on what the student is hoping to achieve. I appreciate that, most often, a student's aim is to achieve a certain grade in an exam. In these cases, I will spend a lot of time working with the student to familiarise them not only with the material for the exam, but with the format of the exam paper, exploring how to approach different types of question and working directly with mark schemes to best understand how credit is awarded.

I am, however, passionate about my subject, and aim to uncover some enthusiasm for the sciences with all my students, through engaging sessions in which we can explore topics in perhaps more detail than is often possible within schools.

I am an Independent Educational Consultant specialising in Dyslexic Disorders. I have been a private tutor for many years and have tutored over 200 students. I have worked with many gifted children and those also who find education a challenge. I specialise in special needs especially dyslexia and Autism. After training as a teacher and the a medical doctor I find that my interest has remained in the education field and so am now to begin training as an Educational Psychologist with the Institute of Education, University of London.

My general approach to teaching is to enhance individual skills by providing an individual programme for the student. This allows the student to learn independently instead of the learning associated within schools of one size fits all. Unfortunately, this does not work with many children who need a structured individualised approach. I also work within the "We find this subject a challenge, not an impossibility" field; that is to say everything is positive concerning the tuition, and everyone can learn, its just they have not been taught in a way that they personally understand. As a teenager I was lucky enough to receive tuition myself and it made a huge difference, so I really know how much of an advantage it gives.

Tutoring is my full-time job and has been for many years.

- How long is your waiting list?

My after school, evening and weekend lessons have a 2-3 year waiting list. This can fluctuate according to the number of Year 11 students staying on for sixth form, the number of siblings starting lessons and requests for extra lessons from my current students. I always recommend students join my waiting list in Year 7 to ensure a slot for GCSE. However I understand this isn't always possible and I'll always try where I can to accommodate you.

- What does a typical lesson involve?

This completely depends on the individual student! I'm very lead by the aspirations, ability and talents of all the wonderful students I teach.

In general we go through the specification of their particular qualifications in detail and then attempt the relevant exam question booklets I put together. Kinaesthetic learners love my box of molecules! Every lesson has a positive and productive atmosphere to boost my student's confidence and help them achieve their individual potentials.

Highly recommend!!! Ellie has genuinely been the best chemistry teacher I have had, she is also an examiner which is a great help as her knowledge is always up to date not only with content but also exam questions and mark schemes. She explains the chemistry in as much detail as you need as opposed to the majority of teachers who focus more on memorisation and wrote learning. So you have a good understanding (which is the best teaching style as exam questions can require a lot of application.) I have more than 10 years one-to-one tutorial and 6 years group tutorial experience in maths. Mainly teach the students in the age between 12 to 17. The teaching content include explain the concept, consolidate the formula and skill by massive practice and train the examination skills. Although I taught maths in Hong Kong syllabus mainly before, I also have taught some students in GCSE. Therefore I also understand the syllabus in GCSE.

In my teaching experience, I think the most important point is let the student understand the concept so that they know what they are do, rather than just remember the formula and methods. Therefore in my lesson, students can expect they would touch much of different types of question to challenge their thinking. I'm a graduate of the University of Cambridge (Murray Edwards College) in Natural Sciences, specialising in Physics, with over five years of teaching experience. After university, I spent a year as a Science teaching assistant in a top Oxford senior school, and a further two years as a classroom teacher abroad, mainly in China, where I taught Physics and Maths A level.
