I received my Bachelor`s Degree in Physics in 2012 and my Master's Degree in 2017 from the University of Havana. Since I finished my Bachelor's degree, I worked as a Physics teacher in the Physics Faculty at the University of Havana from 2012 to 2021 where I worked as a lecturer.

I tend to use a variety of methods when teaching, depending on the child and their needs, focusing on their age and what their syllabus requires. I am capable to do quick summarised revision sessions, as well as long term lesson plans. Either way I ensure that the student is always given homework and stays revising. If appropriate I also do small mastery tests at the start of each lesson which consists of a five minute recap test, so the student is required to have revised the previous lesson well. Obviously if they struggle with the homework or mastery test, then the lesson plan's pace is adjusted to meet the child's level. Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:
- learning the foundation of the subject
- how to manage time in exams
- how to structure their answers in an exam
- lots and lots of practice

During the first session together, I use part of the time to discuss with the tutee objectives and expectations, hence only half the fee needs to be paid.

Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic teacher of Physics with 17 years` experience. I enjoy hill walking and off road cycling. I am married with a son living away from home. I specialise in teaching A Level Physics and Cambridge Pre-U and have experience with all examination boards and with both A and B specifications.

Before becoming a teacher I had a wide experience of industry and also worked in two university departments: Trinity College Dublin as a Physics Lecturer and Durham University as a Computer Science lecturer.

Teaching Experience:
I have spent most of my career in industry and left to train as a teacher in 2003 years ago. I taught KS4 and KS5 Physics at Emmanuel College and was Head of Physics at Barnard Castle school. Since my partial retirement I have taught Physics at Durham High School for girls in 2019 and 2020. I have now retired from full time employment and am available throughout the working day and in the evening to provide online tuition.

Tutoring Approach:
I always aim to build a warm and friendly relationship with my students. In my online lessons I typically spend about half the time reviewing the subject material and the rest of the time in working through questions with the student. I use an online whiteboard and send a copy of the notes from the session to the student. I generally supply additional work to be completed for the next session, although this is optional and depends on individual needs.

I previously ran my own business for 12 years before I decided that I wanted to teach chemistry in a secondary school. This was one of the best decisions I ever made- I can honestly say I love my job! After training at Etone College in Nuneaton I began working at Rawlett School (Tamworth, Staffordshire) in September 2020

I'm married with two kids and I'm a big Leicester City fan!

Teaching Experience:
I'm currently working full time as an NQT at Rawlett School in Tamworth, Staffordshire where I feel very priviledged to work as part of a very strong science department. At Rawlett I teach KS3 and KS4 (11-16). My subject specialism is Chemistry which I teach predomminantly at KS4. I teach all 3 sciences at KS3 and have taught all sciences at KS4

I previously trainined through the SCITT training programme at Etone College and Hartshill School both in Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

I've managed to survive two lockdowns of online teaching and it has been a huge learning curve for myself. During these periods I taugh live lessons using google classroom both on an individual and classroom basis.

The organisation I work for (AET academies) is a national leader for integrating technology with classroom based learning and I have hugely benefited from working for AET in this regard.

During lockdown I particularly enjoyed the challenge of adapting to the needs of SEND pupils

Tutoring Approach:
My experience in online teaching is based around using google classroom systems but I'm more than happy to adapt to applications that my pupils are more comfortable using.
I normally tutor in hour sessions and do my best to work around the schedules of my customers

I favour modelling answers and working through questions with pupils by using a graphics tablet which I find immensely useful. The learning resources I use are the results of the hardwork of the experienced team I work with at the AET academy.

I'd describe my teaching style as being driven by my passion for science. I consider it crucial to establish a good working relationship with my pupils so they feel confident enough to express what it is they are struggling to understand. I believe a sense of humour is a very underated and important tool for achieving this as well as enabling pupils to enjoy the subject being taught.

I have a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering (PhD), with years of first hand experience in satisfactorily engaging and supporting students as I attempt to demystify and tear down barriers (or challenges) in different subjects areas. I am passionate and enthusiastic at teaching Mathematics, Physics, Engineering related modules and Computer related modules including programming as I create an empowering environment for students while demonstrating empathy, pastoral care and patience at all times. I have gained an extensive knowledge base to enable me deliver an outstanding knowledge transfer process to stimulate curiosity, interaction and connection with students in their respective subjects of interest. I have successfully tutored students at GCSE , A levels and BEng programs. Again, I have lectured at College and University level on Science and Engineering related subjects while promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity at all times. Typically, I elicit learning from my students by finding areas of the topic they find difficult, lack confidence and find challenging. Then, I facilitate engagement by starting my lesson from there as I clarify concepts, misconceptions or difficulties. I am a qualified physics and mathematics teacher (teaching KS3, KS4 and A-Level physics) with a PGCE in Physics with Mathematics and a PhD in theoretical physics.

Tutoring Approach:
I put an emphasis on a deep understanding of each concept, theory, method, and observation, dissolving misconceptions, as well as acquiring and mastering technical skills. I am thorough in teaching, and besides explaining everything clearly I also provide and walk with the student through the necessary material - usually in the form of slides, interactive questions and quizzes, simulations, notes, problems, exam practice papers and past papers - for a solid understanding through assimilation of the ideas as well as practice. Problem-solving methods are discussed and explained, not only as to how a problem is solved, but also why it's solved that way: this helps the student understand the maths and science behind the problem better, as well as develop their critical and analytical abilities that will help them tackle any other problem in maths and science as well as in life in general.

I encourage questioning, not hesitating to raise unclear points, individuality in thinking and working, having an inquisitive and creative mind, and being good friends and generosity with working time. My particular planning and delivery of the tutorials depend on the individual student's current motivation, needs, and knowledge, as well as the particular content of the topic that is taught. I also often discuss with the student ways to learn as well as study. True learning and understanding has a multifaceted nature.

For online lessons (single or group), I use an interactive platform where I as well as the student can write on the lesson slides, so we can answer questions, write derivations and make clarifications in writing. The platform also allows for online interactive simulations that bring theory to life. This platform is also used for in-person sessions for faster responses and a more stimulating and interactive lesson. For group tutorials at home, I utilise a physical whiteboard in my living room on which both I and the students can write, in addition to slides presented on a screen. In all cases, the whole lesson is available for revision as a pdf file after each session.

I believe that everyone has the potential to reach their aims, and I always do my utmost so that this will happen for each one of my students.
