Hello! My name is Gemma and I am a 32 year old doctor, chartered accountant, strategy consultant and successful start up founder. I graduated in medicine from Nottingham University in 2016, switched to finance, became a qualified chartered accountant, and now work for one of the 'Big4' in health advisory and strategic consulting. However, my heart will always lie with the sciences, and somehow in amongst all of my wide ranging career, my favourite job has always been teaching.

The tutor is the expert in subject knowledge and learning but it is the tutee who has the paramount role in their own education and excelling in their subjects. I firmly believe that the role of a tutor is that of a catalyst and the child's role in their own learning is of greater importance. I aim to guide the tutee to learn in a structured manner that so that the child does not waste their time jumping from topic to topic, randomly browsing a bit here and a bit there, as often happens. I will work to improve the child's self esteem, self belief and confidence in their ability to do well. As a trained hypnotherapist I am particularly qualified to boost a child's self-esteem. I will work with each tutee on an individual basis and adjust the tuition lessons to their needs. There is no standard one size fits all model with me. Honest school teachers will tell you that it is the noisy and disruptive pupils that get their attention, whereas the quite shy hardworking pupils tend to get neglected. Busy school teachers just do not have the time or energy to devote to helping their quieter or weaker pupils and it is these pupils that especially benefit from extra personal tuition. On the other hand a brighter pupil may be so far ahead of his or her peers that the teacher is just not able to give them the attention they need. A good tutor will help guide tutees who want to learn to get ahead and avoid becoming disinterested or bored. Why leave it to chance?

It is never too early to start boosting a child's education. For primary school children it is important that they get a good start to their education and do not lag behind. A tuition boost will enable them to get into a better school or a higher stream set so that they do not have to struggle or get left behind when the come to do their GCSE and A Levels.

Learning how to learn is important for everyone and I can help students build their own study skills , developing both abilities and confidence. My own love for learning is evidenced by my hobbies which extend from sailing through to singing, piano, camping and walking and even the piano accordion. Teaching Experience:
I have taught physics and maths up and and including A level for 20 years. I have also taught maths up to GCSE for many years. I am a previous head of science & assistant headteacher. Previously, I am an examiner for OCR Physics at A level and WJEC for Science at GCSE and currently deliver the WJEC specification to students in Wales. I tutor pupils from all examination boards across the UK.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is to ensure students understand the areas of learning they are struggling with and build on that to ensure confidence in all areas of the course. I challenge pupils on what they already know to ensure it is correctly reinforced and their confidence grows. I tutor using reciprocal learning, where students are able to independently learn a topic and then have a tutorial style lesson where they reinforce that learning. Tutoring styles are always adapted to the needs of the learner which is very quickly established.
