The key skill universities are looking for is an inquisitive nature, so I do not lecture to the student, I let them give feedback and treat them as an equal, and in most examples let the student lead the session. My first session is normally spent working out the best tutoring technique, how motivated the student is and what sort of ability they are. I have been passionate about maths since early childhood. I spent a decade as a fully qualified maths teacher, teaching GCSE maths and A-level (including further maths) to pupils from a wide variety of abilities, backgrounds and cultures. I believe in a very individualised approach, concentrating on identifying and improving the areas a pupil struggles with. As a consequence my aim is always encouraging, personalised and results-focused. My primary aim is build self-confidence and resilience by focusing on required knowledge, problem solving strategies and understanding combined with plenty of practice and exam technique woven in. I work from the ground up, making sure there are no gaps in prior learning that can often hold students back later. I want every student to leave every lesson a better mathematician and a happier more confident person. I tutor both in-person and online, using Microsoft Teams and interactive whiteboards to demonstrate ideas clearly and work through problems together in real time.
