I am a graduate in Physics with Astrophysics, which was a four year degree, which included me living and learning in Italy. My degree was challenging yet enjoyable, and contained a lot of Maths, which to me was great! As a born communicator writing and teaching have always appealed, and having spent the last decade tutoring and working for the Institute of Physics, I can definitely say I enjoy it as much now as I did when I started.. I am a professional geography researcher specialised in regional geography and urban sciences. I have gained my knowledge and expertise from universities across Europe (Pécs, Wolverhampton, Maribor, Zagreb, and Ljubljana). I am currently a PhD Aspirant at the University of Pécs, Hungary.

I have been mainly researching in the field 'geography of energy', but my interests link my specification to other scientific disciplines such as sustainability, environmental sciences, and landscape geography, and I am able to perform and combine various geographical fields.

During my years as a PhD Student, I was given the chance to gain experience as a lecturer; teaching subjects which included: renewable energy resources and world regional geography. I have a surface pro with a pen for online lessons. In economics and maths, I use an online whiteboard which students have permanent access to, to write notes and solutions to exam questions. My approach is to accelerate students as fast as possible through their given course using exam material to deepen and develop their knowledge. I find I can accelerate students rapidly in maths (at GCSE and A-level), whilst they greatly enjoy the subject and the sessions. Students quickly improve at school too, which gives them extra confidence in their talents and capabilities. I set students past papers questions and we resolve any difficulties they had in the session. Iterating through past paper questions in this manner leads to exceptional results: a student of mine came in the top 1% in the entrance exam against Oxford University applicants and gained a place. Similarly, students excel at 11+, 13+, GCSE and A-Level in this manner. Practicing exam material and constantly pushing myself is how I achieved first class hons at the University of Oxford (as well as how I exceled at school), coming top in Game Theory in the exam, so I believe in this approach.

I'm Kirsty, I love teaching as I believe my passion for my subject helps ignite curiosity in young people of where we see maths in everyday life and how it affects their lives. Spotting patterns and being able to problem solve in every job and career path comes from great mathematical analytic skills!

I love when students get the 'lightbulb' moment; the understanding kicks in and we get the solution to the problem we are working on. Endorphins rushing when we feel a sense of achievement. I want to help break the barriers of 'I'm not good at maths' and change mindsets to 'I'm not good at maths, yet'. Optimism and a positive mindset can really change outcomes, both with maths questions and life in general.

I have been teacher for the past 10 years in a secondary school in Billingham. I have taught throughout key stage 3 and 4, from year 7 through to year 11. I have designed schemes of learning and the resources to go along with that to enable students to have interactive but thoughtful, ordered maths lessons with key concepts covered and checking for understanding throughout.
