My approach for students studying Psychology at degree level depends on what is required. Most students require guidance with essays, reports, dissertations and write ups; I usually go through the assignment with the student giving valuable, detailed feedback on what can be improved and exactly how they can go about doing so. This can involve several redrafts until the work has been completed to the students' full potential.

I am currently a grade-one "outstanding" teacher in my present school, and have been delivering KS3, GCSE and A Level English, Maths and History in the secondary and sixth-form sectors for the past 16 years, in which time my results have far surpassed national pass rates. Moreover, due to these outstanding results and innovative teaching methods, I have served as Assistant Head of Department; helping us to be awarded an internal grade 1 "outstanding" rating for the 6 years in which I held the post. Furthermore, I also have extensive experience as an "Advanced Practitioner"-tasked with turning around failing cohorts in some of the UK's toughest classrooms, as well as my time as an examiner for a variety of GCSE/A Level exam boards.

Moreover, due to this long history of being a stand-out professional in the education sector, my advice has been sought out for occasional media and radio appearances for discussions on educational policy, whilst also being head-hunted to tutor the children of prominent public figures including Premiership footballers, Olympic athletes, luminaries of the business world, and even the family of a Nobel Prize winner for a month-which was awesome!

Tutoring Approach:
In my experience, I have learned that the majority of tutors just 'turn-up-and-teach' without actually preparing. 'Understanding' is the most important thing when it comes to learning, not 'regurgitating information'. As a tutor, I only get ONE CHANCE to impart 'understanding' in a way that not only clear, but coherent. Not preparing only means the student will only get more confused. But this won't happen with me!!

In my years as a student, I remember my tutors either setting no homework at all, or random questions from some textbook they've just picked out. Closer to the exams, I go through years and years of past papers, and pick out the most appropriate previous exam questions - but not too early! It's important my students have developed that deep understanding of the syllabus first. Yes - yet again, my experience has made me realise that too many tutors are using these exam past papers and 'teaching' their students with them, instead of going through the basics first.

Is it a good idea to give a bunch of papers to a student and hope they'll get on with it? Especially when the student isn't ready, perhaps hasn't learned all of the content inside out, and hasn't been walked through a single practice question, let alone an entire paper before? I focus on exam practice, but only at the right time.

I am extremely patient, especially with the pupils requiring extra support. I aim to provide all my tutees with the confidence and the understanding which is necessary for success in the subject. Hi, my name is Maahi, and I am currently a student at St Dominic's 6th form, studying Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level. I received an outstanding set of GCSE grades and my set of results was even published in the school newspaper. I like helping younger students in any way possible, in year 10, I helped those who have come from foreign countries or have a lower reading level and have difficulty reading to become fluent readers through a 'reading buddies' programme. That was when I realised that I am good at teaching and helping students. After that I tutored the younger children in family and friends and helped them get amazing grades for SAT'S and gcse's and I want to extend this to everyone that wants to receive good grades and achieve their dreams. I am a retired maths teacher who has been successfully tutoring maths for the past 15 years. I graduated from Imperial College, London, with a first class honours degree and, for most of my full time working career, I was a computer software engineer. However, at the end of my career, I was a lecturer at the Royal School of Signalling, teaching mainly Data Networks but also Mathematics. I am married with 4 children and (to date) 7 grandchildren with whom we seem to have taken on a new career as child minders.

Teaching Experience:
When teaching maths at the Royal School Of Signalling, I was told I was doing a great job, particularly at building the confidence of students who had previously struggled while at school. During my time there, I gained a CFET teaching qualification and, based on my success, started offering private tuition. I found that I enjoyed the one to one lessons and tayloring the sessions for each individual student. I have now been successfully tutoring maths for 15 years. I have taught GCSE and A level maths for all the exam boards (Edexecl, AQA, OCR), plus for some entrance exams and scholarship exams. As well as in person tutoring, I have been sucesssfully teaching online via Zoom; I have a drawing pad and document camera to help.

I understand Maths to be a progressive series of concepts; the simpler, earlier concepts must be fully mastered before the more advanced ones can be readily understood. For example, I have come across students, even at A level, whose understanding of basic algebra is incomplete and this is holding them back from learning the more advanced topics. I therefore start by ensuring that these basic skills have been mastered before moving on. This continues throughout the student's progress, whether we are at Foundation GCSE or A level. I ensure each topic is properly understood before moving on and always make time to revise and consolidate. Basically the student sets the pace.
