I have been successfully teaching in the Primary sector for over 30 years and have experience across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2. I resigned from my most recent full time post as Headteacher of a primary school, to return to my first love of teaching and now tutor children alongside working part time as a teacher.

Tutoring Approach:
Since I qualified as a teacher in 1996, I have tutored primary aged children in Reading, Writing and Maths. I have also supported many children through Y6 Sats and with the transition to secondary school.

I offer both face to face and online tuition via Zoom.

I am a PhD mathematician, with a special interest in applied mathematics and statistics. I worked for some years in University departments as a tutor and then lecturer. More recently I have worked for almost two decades in industry as a mathematician at a prestigious research centre in Cambridge. I think that most students have more mathematical ability than they themselves believe; this can be brought out in a positive fashion once negative stereotypes are discarded. Also the application of mathematics to the real world can be exciting and profitable.

I'm Chris, a 23 year old maths PhD student at Brunel University. I was originally granted a School Studentship to fund my studies but then soon after starting my research I was upgraded to an ESPRC grant. I study maths because I enjoy it, and enthusiasm to teach it comes part of this package. I have been a maths tutor for the last 5 years, teaching remotely with students taking their SATs, GCSEs, and A-levels as well as individuals who are taking University exams. I have worked with over 20 tutees and I am well equipped to guide students through the exam season with both new study and revision, alongside important exam technique and strategy.

Tutoring Approach:
I deliver online lessons using an interactive whiteboard, tailored specifically to how each student engages with their maths. My goal is simple: to help students build confidence, master content, and achieve to the best of their ability. At the end of each lesson, I guide students on targeted practice material. For GCSE students, this includes access to my updated 5-a-week practice program.

Success in tutoring is a team effort. My role is to transfer my knowledge and skills onto my students, keep them on track, and give them the support they need both in and out of sessions. In return, I ask that students stay committed and practise between sessions. By building this strong working dynamic, we consistently meet, or exceed, target grades and develop a new confidence for learning that my students can take with them into their next phase.
