I have a dual background in Electrical Engineering and Psychology and retired in 2007 after 20 years as a University lecturer. At different stages in my career I have taught telecommunications engineering, computer programming, software engineering, artificial intelligence and psychology. For relaxation I listen to jazz and blues.

I have been tutoring students since March 2008 and am able to offer maths, physics and ICT from primary up to 'A' level, and general science (biology, chemistry, and physics) up to GCSE level. I have taught GCE A-level Maths, Further Maths and Physics with a number of students who have obtained places at Oxbridge/ Russell Group Universities to study Engineering, Maths, Medicine and Economics. I started working as a tutor in London and Surrey in 2013/2014, mainly for students who had been excluded from school. In 2015 I relocated and began tutoring private clients in East Anglia. In 2016 I started offering online tuition, first using Skype, and now with Zoom. Hi, I'm Pedro. I was born in Portugal but have lived in England since I was 9. I'm currently studying BSc in Psychology at Bournemouth University and I really enjoy my degree. I am particularly interested in clinical psychology and as a result since April 2022 I've been volunteering at 'Hammersley Homes', a charity which focuses on helping adults with mental illness. I took up a role as 'PAL' leader at my university where I was given a classroom of 20 first year psychology students. Although the role involved me 'facilitating' instead of 'teaching'. I spoke to my 'students' every week on what content they were struggling with, since I had done the same content the year prior, I compiled and summarised content which I had been taught and created power point slides to give them direction and a better understanding on the content. I also emphasised taking care of mental health and getting involved with the community.

I am an extremely skilled and dedicated teacher with over 20 years of classroom teaching experience, within the London Borough of Redbridge. I hold a degree in psychology, followed by a Postgraduate qualification in Education (PGCE), specialising in English. As a result, I achieved my QTS (Qualified Teaching Status).

Alongside my teaching career, I have consistently tutored children on a one-to-one basis, including home educated learners. I have worked with children across a wide range of abilities , helping them to grow in confidence, develop strong academic skills and achieve success in their learning journey. I feel that if a child needs help, the primary school years are the best time to begin developing the right foundations...

Specialist Experience

I have a wealth of knowledge with the KS1&2 curriculum and have extensive experience preparing children for year 6 SATs. In addition, I have worked as a KS2 examiner, to mark SATs papers, giving me valuable insight into assessment expectations and standards.

I also have strong experience supporting children with SEND and neurodivergent learners. I understand the importance of adapting teaching approaches to ensure every child feels engaged and capable of succeeding.
