During my time there, I gained experience of teaching a wide variety of schemes of work (Key Stage 3, Modular GCSE, Coursework, Linear GCSE) and also taught sixth form GCSE resit classes for 2 years. I was also a form tutor for 5 years carrying my form through from Year 7 to Year 11 and participated in the school PSHE programme where I was involved in designing a unit of work for year 7 pupils with regards to financial management and calculations.
I left Holly Lodge in July 2009 due to my father becoming seriously ill and his subsequent death and took a year out of teaching to begin a family history research project before returning to the profession in September 2010 by working for Celsian Education (Liverpool) as a supply. However work was few and far between so by September 2011, I moved to another agency The Education Specialists. But once again work was far from plentiful. In October 2013, I joined Our Whiston Library Group (OWL) as a campaigner/volunteer with the initial aim of opening in April 2014 in partnership with Hugh Baird College of Bootle, but they withdrew at the last minute leaving our group to make a bid on our own to take over the building. I have gained a wealth of experience supporting students with their progression toward their exams helping them develop confidence in theses subjects.

The sessions that I run are planned to be structured and informative as well as enjoyable. I try and identify areas where there is a lack of understanding quickly and then address these issues through explanation and practice. I'm a statistician and scientist to trade and a father of two children.
I have taught many pupils (mainly Higher, Advanced Higher, or A level when I did my PhD in England).
Because I am employed and have a family, I like to teach just one pupil per year
I teach Higher or Advanced Higher level because I prefer that level of maths and also I enjoy teaching that level of pupil.

Tutoring Approach:
1. I always urge pupils to LEARN the rules (the maths rules). People think this is odd because the rules are often given at the front of the exam paper. I do this because I believe learning helps with knowing what tools are available and because I think it helps understanding.
2. I encourage pupils to decide what topic they want to cover in advance of the lesson so that we cover what THEY think they find difficult
3. As well as explaining the concepts and getting the pupil to practice relevant questions I also, as we approach May, give advice on exam preparation and technique.

I am a GTC (General Teaching Council for Scotland) registered Maths teacher with a first class hons BSc and PhD in Chemistry from Edinburgh University and a background in engineering and industry.

While I am highly academically qualified, I understand how it feels to struggle with study and the benefit of getting extra support. I found parts of maths and language difficult at school and was lucky to have a couple of very understanding teachers who helped correct the damage to confidence and understanding left by some rather less sympathetic practitioners.

I have many interests from sports and the environment to languages and the arts and believe in lifelong learning to help gain new skills remain adaptable and responsive to change. I have distinctions from the OU in maths and psychology courses and continue to access various online learning opportunities. This enables me to take a broad outlook and to encourage students to think widely and deeply about opportunities and issues in the world.

I really enjoy tutoring students and helping them to achieve in their studies and gain a sense of satisfaction in their work.

The students who were failing and dispirited who progress to pass with very secure B grades, their confidence and positivity restored.

I am an experienced teacher of Mathematics at key stages 2, 3, 4 and 5. I have taught in Bath and London for over 10 years and tutored hundreds of hours worth of lessons both face to face and online.

I am a qualified teacher of Mathematics with wide experience teaching from years 5 to 13. I taught for five years at an all girls` secondary school in Bath before moving to an extremely high achieving boys`school close to my new home in Northwood.

I had spent the years prior teaching in mixed gender secondary schools in Bristol and Trowbridge as well as a middle school in Dorset.

I have seven years of experience helping young people achieve their goals in mathematics in a tutor capacity.

I have created a wealth of resources in recent years with the aim of diagnosing and curing misconceptions in topic specific areas within the curriculum for key stage 3, GCSE, IGCSE, FSMQ and A-level. These have proven invaluable in preparing students for their state examinations.

I take a very flexible approach to tutoring as my lessons need to be catered to the individual student. I use diagnostics to help inform me of areas of development and create a series of lessons to improve understanding accordingly. I am also happy to be student led when they have immediate issues with their current school learning. When preparing students for state examinations I encourage exam techniques through the use of past paper questions.
