In 2016, my husband and I returned to Bedford to start our family and I accepted a position at a local boys' school, teaching science from year 6 to A-level. Following the birth of our daughter 5 years ago, I decided to once again return to full-time tuition in order to spend more time with my growing family.

I tailor each lesson to suit the student's needs. The first few lessons usually focus on getting to know the student and their strengths and weaknesses. I identify areas for improvement and use subsequent lessons to work on these, as well as ensuring that the student is comfortable with the whole of the syllabus. I'm David and I'm a year 13 student having just graduated from St Paul's School London and finished A levels and looking to go on to study Mathematics at either the University of Cambridge or Imperial College London next year, with 4 A* predicted and 9s in 11/11 subjects at GCSE. I've tutored previously in St Mary's Ukrainian School for a period of 6 months, where I tutored GCSE Maths and brought up three peoples' grades from a 7 to a 9, a 6 to an 8 and a 6 to a 9 respectively. Although I had to stop the tutoring due to other commitments the students that I tutored said that they would absolutely have continued if I had had the availability, and it heped me understand more where people struggle and how to best help them with their studies.

Of course I think the question volume is important but beneath all of that I think that you need to have a comprehensive understanding of the subject in order to build confidence for the actual exam so I might use various questions as examples (which I'm very well versed in having just finished A levels) but if it's clear that there's a fundamental gap in understanding I'll address that first before teaching them how to do the questions.
